A few weeks later I was sitting in my apartment when there was a knock on my door. I was expecting anyone and I really just wanted a relaxing night. Once I opened the door I saw Nick standing there.
"A house call...not sure how I fee about this." I said and he sighed walking in.
"We need to talk about Sharon." He said and I laughed.
"Yeah, nope. You hired her, you deal with her. I'm not going to be her handler while she handles Steve." I said and Nick sighed.
"It's not that. Steve is insistent he doesn't need a handler and he would rather just learn about this life and everything that happened while he was under by himself through files and Peggy." Nick said.
"So you essentially need to fire Sharon and want me to do it?" I questioned and Fury sighed.
"Well not exactly. I was watching her combat and shooting training. I think she could be a good asset to S.H.I.E.L.D. and a good agent. I just wanted to talk to you about it first." Nick said as we sat on my couch.
"Talk to me about what? Her constantly being around? I don't give a shit Fury. You should have had this talk with me before you even hired her in as Steve's handler. Also, he needs a handler, he needs someone looking out for him." I said and Fury nodded.
"Nat offered. He trust Nat." Nick said and I just half nodded.
"Perfect. Well you want to make Sharon an agent I can't stop you. If she is ready and can handle the job, go for it. I just don't want to be around her." I said and Nick sighed.
"Can I ask what happened between the two of you?" Nick asked.
I sighed and just looked at my hands in my lap.
"Sharon and I used to be super close, thick as thieves as the saying goes. Well when it came out in the family that I was accepted into S.H.I.E.L.D. and Peggy was so excited the entire family was against it, told me I was throwing away my life. They knew Peggy had a great life but they thought it would be different for me. I thought Sharon was in my corner and agreed with my path but then she told me I was being dumb and throwing everything away. That would have been bad enough but that was the same day I found her naked in my boyfriends bed with him." I said and Nick groaned.
"Yeah, maybe I should have come to you first..." Nick said and I huffed a laugh.
"Possibly." I said with a smirk.
"So you and Sharon don't want to work together as the Carter Agents?" Nick asked sarcastically and we laughed.
"I may shoot her if you put me with her Nick." I said and he smiled.
"Noted." Nick said and I smiled.
"Now to my next point..." Nick said and I looked at him.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"I know Nat is looking after Steve and everything but do you think you could just check in with her every once in awhile and just check on Steve?" Nick asked and I sighed but nodded.
"Sure can." I said and he smiled.
"Perfect. I told her about this already. She said just get together with her and wok out a schedule." Nick said and I nodded.
"Will do." I said and Nick smiled.

It was working out well getting together with Nat for coffee once a week to talk about Steve for 3 weeks. We worked out some problems he would be having at the time together and she would go back to him with a solution. This is everything that I should have been dealing with, with him personally but he didn't want me as a handler.
I was walking into the coffee shop for my weekly meeting with Nat when I saw him sitting at our normal table. I got my drink and walked over to him since he was looking at me since I walked in.
"Nat can't make it today, I thought you would want to know." Steve said and I sat down.
"Oh, she okay?" I asked.
"Well, she left on a mission a few days ago. She said she didn't tell you thinking she would be back but it's taking longer than expected." Steve explained.
"She tell you to come and tell me?" I asked.
"Oh no, actually she wanted Fury to tell you so expect a call from him soon. I mean since you all are going behind my back and you are handling me through Nat." Steve said and I groaned.
"Steve listen..." I started to say, and he shook his head.
"No excuses Summer." Steve said and I shook my head.
"I don't have any Steve. All I can tell you is since Sharon wasn't your handler anymore and Nat took over, she would only ask me if she was stuck on something with you. I didn't want to go behind your back, but it seemed like the only way. Besides Peggy and Nick, I know so much about you Steve. Files and everything. I watched all the old footage, I read all the old files. I was ready for anything with you." I said and Steve just sighed.
"I know things got thrown for a loop and maybe...just maybe I over reacted." Steve said and I raised my eyebrows at him. "Don't let it go to your head." Steve said, I shook my head slightly with a smirk.
"Never..." I said.
"But listen, I really don't even need Nat to be a handler, I just need a friend willing to help. If Nat can't be that friend...do you want to be?" Steve said and I sighed.
"I can be, only if you want me to be." I said and he nodded.
"I need a new Peggy in my life." Steve said and we laughed.
"Well, I don't know if I can be as great as she was, but I can certainly try." I said and Steve sighed.
"Peggy was the best." Steve said. I sighed and looked at Steve.
"I think I should probably tell you now that we are trying this whole friendship honesty thing..." I trailed off and Steve just looked at me.
"Peggy wanted us together, as a couple." Steve said.
"You knew?!" I asked.
"She wasn't subtle about it when she flat out told me I was with the wrong Carter granddaughter. Also said something along the lines of why you took Sharon being my handler so personal and taking everything from you." Steve said and I groaned.
"Yeah...well she wasn't wrong." I said and Steve just looked at me as I looked down at my coffee cup.
"You want to elaborate?" Steve asked.
"Not right now." I said and Steve nodded.
"Well listen if I need anything I will call you. Don't feel like you have to go out of your way to make sure I'm okay. I got Nat." Steve said.
"Well, I would like to still have my coffee dates with Nat. Feel free to join if you would like." I said and Steve nodded.
"Will do." Steve said standing up. "Thanks for everything Summer." Steve said and I shrugged.
"Didn't do anything Steve." I said.
"Just thank you for everything you did do while I was under." Steve said and walked away.
