AN HOUR LATER, the clan of three had boarded the man's ship and taken off, leaving the city behind them. Arani watched as the dock and buildings became smaller and smaller until the Mon Calamari town was just an outline. She turned, following the fluid movements of all of the sailors as they pulled rigging and heaved nets, and frowned. Ari had hoped that being on a new planet - one completely different than the past two - would have triggered something, but there was no memory to be found.
Leaning against the ship's railing, the young woman glanced at her friend. "You think they are to be trusted?"
"No," said Mando, his eyes never leaving the grey waters.
Ari crossed her arms. "Good."
One of the man's brothers curiously watched the girl, never once blinking as if she'd disappear or snap into a frenzy if he looked away. When she went into a defensive position, he came over with a spear, making idle conversation.
"You ever see a mamacore eat? Quite a sight."
Ari huffed and glanced at Mando, neither one acknowledging him.
"Child might take an interest. You should take a look."
The kid stood in his pram, cooing and tilting his head. The Mandalorian finally looked at the man, knowing the child was indeed interested.
"Come on over here."
The bounty hunter took half a step when Ari placed a hand on his chest. Mando knew she feared the worst, but they were just citizens doing their work. Yet, he didn't let that fact make him drop his defence. Arani had amazing instincts, sometimes better than him. He could never forget that it was she who noticed the kid was missing and felt something amiss back on the snowy planet. However, he couldn't let the Quarrens figure out their position. Mando nodded to the woman, lifting her hand off of him and placing back on her side.
"Get a good view. Let the kid see," said the man, fixing a net of fish over a giant grate in the ship.
Ari stayed farther away but was still capable of seeing the beast, and Mando kept a reasonable distance, too.
The crane dropped the fish into the water and it quickly bubbled and turned as the mamacore rose to the surface.
"She must be hungry. Oftentimes we'll feed her in the early morning, but we missed that 'cause we were goin' out of port!" The Quarren took his spear and hits the child's pram, sending him into the water, the water beast claiming him whole.
"No!" yelled Ari and Mando, the latter jumped in after the kid, trying to retrieve him.
Ari came forth, wanting to join the Mandalorian, but another Quarren grabbed her from behind. She kicked as he tugged her further back, away from her friends.
