Emilia

I have two fathers. One, I call Uncle Xero. He's my biological father. The other, I call Dad. He's my step father. My family is weird, but I like it.

Mom has told me many times the story of "How I Came to be." It's a long story that she's also told many other people. It's in a book titled Stay.

The story she hasn't told though was about raising me, her daughter Emilia. It's not a difficult story from her point of view, but from my teenage point of view, it is very difficult.

I was sixteen and preparing for the end of year tenth grade exams. It was late at night and my twin sisters were running around their room, making a lot of noises.

I slammed my book angrily and walked down the hall to their room. When I opened the door, the music was blaring and the two girls stopped dancing.

They're fourteen and don't have to worry too much about end of year exams like I do. My mother let the two dye their hair so that we could tell them apart. They look exactly alike. There are no differences what-so-ever.

The one with the black hair is Essie. The one with the brownish red hair is Ellie. Sometimes I mix up their names so I think of them as one instead of individuals.

"Please, be quieter. I'm studying, girls," I said sternly. I'll never have a close relationship with my sisters. I will always think of them as things and they will always think of me as the bossy lady.

Essie put her hands on her hips. "Why should we?"

My hands turned into fists and I readied myself to run in the room and hit her. I stopped myself though. Then without a second glance, I closed their door and walked away. They started to blare the music right away.

I stayed up that whole night, trying to study.

I like to compare my life to a dandelion's. Dandelions are thought of as weeds and a lot of people don't like them. I consider them to be flowers though. I think they're pretty. Especially when they turn white and only the seeds are left.

My room is covered with pictures of dandelions. I have a billion dried dandelions that I've picked up at school and slammed between the pages of my books. I don't know what started my obsession for dandelions, but I've always loved them.

That's why, the next day at school, when I saw a dandelion, I ran for it. It was growing in the crack between the sidewalk. It was my first dandelion I saw that spring, so I was very excited.

When I dived and ran to get it, I ran right in front of Jin Youngjae. The son of Jin Kidoh, a generous benefactor to our school.

Youngjae ended up tripping and falling on top of me. He was running too, but not for the same reason as I was. He was running from his fan girls that were ready to attack him. Shortly after he tripped over me, the girls surrounded Youngjae and I.

I looked to my side and saw that my dandelion I was going to pick up was crushed. Youngjae was still on top of me and my face was smashed against the ground.

I growled and shouted, "Okay, you can get off me now!"

I heard Youngjae whisper a curse word then he stood up. I felt all the pressure slide off of me.

I tried to get up, but that's when I realized I was badly bruised in the knee and elbow area, so it hurt really badly.

"Um, do you need a nurse?" He asked me as he helped me sit on the concrete.

I felt nervous talking to him. He's an extremely popular person and I'm just a nerd. "N-no, I'm f-fine, t-thank you."

I tried to stand up by myself, but I felt weak and started to fall back down. Youngjae freaked out and luckily, he caught me. "I think you need to go to the nurse," he said, helping me stand up.
