23: Holiday bells

"So it's almost time for that holiday." Ayaka said.

"Indeed. I suppose we must get ourselves prepared." Ayato would say.

They sat in Uyuu Restaurant. They were just finishing their work and duties when they happened to run into each other.

"But I wonder what we could do. This holiday is about giving out love, and gifting presents to each other." Ayato sounded as if he were talking to himself.

"Ayato, my lord. I don't mean to intervene on your conversation, but I have an idea of what you could do." The current manager, Okazaki Rikuto, spoke. "It's what they call Secret Santa. Have you heard of that?"

"Ohh, I've heard of that. But I've never participated in one." Ayaka said.

"What's a Secret Santa?" Ayato asked. For some reason, he had never heard of this before.

"Secret Santa includes a group of people. It's a Christmas tradition where each person in your group is randomly assigned a person, to whom you give a gift to. Be aware, you mustn't tell anyone who that person is, or what's in the gift, it must be kept a secret until presents have been opened on Christmas Day." Rikuto explained how this tradition works.

"Ah, so it's random. We have quite a few friends that we can invite to do that." Ayato said.

"How have you not heard of this, brother?" Ayaka's tone of voice was heard as a sort of disappointment. It was confusing.

"I've been far too busy to learn such things." Ayato said.

"The best way to randomly pick is by using little paper slips with everyone's name individually written on each slip." Said the manager.

"Once we figure out who's going to participate, we can do that." Ayaka said. "Thank you for the idea."

"It's my pleasure." Rikuto gave a small bow before going off to serve other customers.

"I hope I get Thoma." Ayato said.

"Nii-Sama.."

"What? I'll be lucky if I do. I know the perfect present to give him."

"But if you get somebody else, you must be prepared for what that person might like. Whoever else is going to participate.." Ayaka said.

"Yoimiya, we could invite Itto and Shinobu. If they can, Heizou and Kazuha. Perhaps Gorou and Sara if they have the time off. And there are a couple more choices." Ayato started listing the friends that they have.

"We could invite Lady Yae."

"I don't think so."

"Eh-"

"Oh, there's Sayu and her Excellency. Sangonomiya Kokomi." Ayato said.

"Nii-Sama.."

"Thoma, my man! All huddled up for the holidays!" Itto dropped an elbow on Thoma's shoulder.

"Hi, Itto. You're looking good as usual." Thoma said. He wore his winter haori, looking cute as expected. "Uh- Aren't you cold? It's freezing and it's gonna snow soon, and you're not wearing anything to cover your exposed skin."

"Real men don't need to dress all huddled up. I don't think an oni like moi~, can handle wearing such baggy clothes. How do you handle wearing a haori? I questioned that the entire time when we were in the forest trying to chase down some fatui agents." Itto said.
