Bolt Through The Heart (Quanxi X F.OC)

Sei hated this.

Keeping secrets from the only people that weren't bothered by her presence, they didn't deserve to be lied too but she couldn't do anything else.

"That's nice, you are doing good." She pat Cosmo's shoulder as she shoved the exercise sheet in her face to show Sei how much she had filled out. "But do you know what letter you've drawn here?" She asked, she had been sticking true to her promise, helping the fiend know how to write better.

The look on her face was a dead give away, making Sei chuckle.

"That's the S letter, like in Sei, S." She said, Cosmo of course easily picked up on Quanxi's name since she already knew how to write it, she just needed to learn the letters names.

"Halloween."

She smiled.

"Come on, get back to writing, so that in the future we can speak easier."

"Halloween!"

She smiled, trying to distract herself from her own brooding thoughts but even Cosmo's positivity didn't seem to put a dent on this dark cloud floating in her skull.

She stood alone on the roof of the building, still sometimes stealing Quanxi's phone at night and deleting the message logs after, she had just done that this time too.

A cigarette in her mouth as she waited, leaning on the railing, wind carrying the smoke away, far away.

"You took your time." She said, still staring down at the crowd bellow as a crow squawked loudly behind her, humans looking like bustling ants, coming and going to work, living their life, no knowledge they were being watched by a higher power.

"You know I need to stay out of Makima's sight, not everyone can escape her like you do with your sentries." The crow cawed again and flew away, Sei's eyes following its flight path.

"Don't doubt yourself Kishibe." She was smiling as she faced him, the only thing exactly the same between the two devil woman. "You know that if she isn't actively watching you she doesn't see you."

"Yeah yeah well, not taking risks." He walked over, holding out a phone. "This way you won't need to steal from her."

"Thanks." She pocketed it. "And I am just borrowing.... How are things with the chainsaw?"

"Dire."

"As bad as that?"

"Himeno is dead... And him and the blood fiend are now my students too."

"That is dire." She said, sighing, she liked Himeno, free spirited woman that stayed true too herself no matter what others said to her, she only talked with her when she ran into Aki and her, sadly both were always a bit cautious because of her ties to Makima too become friend but she would miss her anyway. 

She stopped leaning on the railing, pulling the zipped too her hoodie open.

"I am here Kishibe, we could try getting rid of Makima right now." She pulled the hoodie open, the piece of clothing hanging off her shoulders and held on by just her sleeves on her arms.

"Don't think I'll go killing you." He shook his head.

"Oh Kishibe, you've changed." She leaned against the railing with her back this time, tilting her head towards the skies with a smile, watching the rain clouds brewing, dark like her thoughts. "I am dying, no matter how near or far in the future, I am going to die, that's the end of my path." No matter how she thought, there was no way she'd survive Makima.

"But it won't be by my hands."

"You know you can't avoid killing me." She grinned, glancing at him. "I die, no matter the outcome of this anti Makima plan."

"And have you told her that?"

"Why would I have?"

"I'd advise you to not leave loose ends, as a devil, you'll revive in hell or as a part of the new conquest devil made whole but with Makima's mind if she survives with her contract, devils always look similar when coming back to life, you would not remember but she would remember you."

"I am not that important, a stranger in everyone's life."

"You underestimate her feelings Sei and I can tell you, you are making a mistake."

"We'll see."

"We will." 

She straightened out as she coughed in her hand, looking at it with a bored look as Kishibe frowned. "Fate is unfair is it not?" She grinned, clearing her throat.

"Very, I've longed to retire and live in peace but that would be stupid."

"Yeah, and I wish I had a bit more time here with this mind, it will be quite sad to forget you, you were nice."

"I bet the next domination devil will be a pain in the ass."

"Eh." She shrugged. "Who knows? Maybe they will be like I am as Makima inherited the original heart of the conquest so the next domination can't be as bad as she is if I revive separate of her."

"If it is not you, they are as bad as her."

"Anyway, you know, the reason I contacted you... Any news on the plans?"

"No, she acts like you never existed, no assassin hires, no search parties, no mention."

"She is trying to already erase me now ey? How evil."

"If you just behaved like other devils, you could win in a fight against her."

"You dream old man."

"To dominate the battle field, control is not always needed."

"But it is highly advised."

"Control is an afterthought too domination."

"If that was your goal."

She finished the cig and flicked the butt of it down into the streets.

"It's getting late, I'll leave." He said, turning his back to her. "Tell her hi for me, or don't, I don't care anyway."

Sei felt like they went in worthless circles while talking but she got all she wanted out of him anyway and got a few minutes with her first friend even if she knew he'd prefer to not be friends, it would have been easier to watch her waste away if they weren't and she felt bad that it hurt him despite how much he hid it.

She watched him leave before sighing.

She highly doubted being ever able to outsmart Makima, sure to dominate an enemy you don't always require control but Makima is a true devil and thinks like one, Sei would say she is more of a human mind, no normal devil would avoid the things she does and act like she does.

Sei shrugged, at least she'll go out true too herself, true too Sei.

She is just sad she'll hurt the girls, they are way too nice to her, lets hope she dies before Quanxi can kick her ass in that case.

The raven was picking through the carcass of a dead rat, tearing with its beaks.
