What if the conquest devil was way too strong because of humanity's wish to conquer all that breathes?

"That's all I can give for now without getting anemic myself." Quanxi said, sitting on the rubble and tying a piece of cloth around her wrist.
When she was done she looked at the devil laying on said rubble.
"More then enough." She said, shaking her head with a sigh, feeling it secure on her neck now. "That was not a natural devil." She said, looking at the hunter. "It was a human probably force-fed with devil blood."
She didn't see much of the hybrid's fight but it was fast, what she saw, more like heard, was her anger, controlled but still there and yet she was so calm sitting next to her currently.
"Any idea who it is?" Quanxi asked.
"Only two places would know to make such a creature." She was staring at the hole in the ceiling, staring at the rat that was gnawing on the exposed wood of its tunnel in the building, she sighed and dropped her head again, knocking on the ground or at least it should have.
"Careful." Sei felt a hand under her head.
"China knows where we are and your whereabouts but this was the knife devil's blood, only human I know contracted to it that is alive is Kishibe and well, that is Japan."
"They wouldn't be working together, they threw away your offered contract."
"Yeah, it is either I've been found by my sister or China has some devil blood collection and testing on people."
"You can drink devil blood no?"
"I can, blood is blood to me."
"I wonder.... Why do you not, I've seen you wipe your hands on your clothes or wash them off, not even tempted by it, you can come out of fights completely covered in blood from head to toe and you only complain about not getting to the shower soon enough."
Sei sighed, she would never drop the subject would she?
"This devil--" She pointed a finger at the rat who stared out, sniffing around. "--is no real devil, bang." It squeaked as blood splattered around.
"Hmmm?"
"I've done some horrible things for her, things that wouldn't mark any other devil but I am the weaker unneeded half of a powerful devil, I don't have the heart of a devil, I don't have the heart of conquest."
"I don't follow Sei."
"Devils gain strength through human blood while I do not wish to caused pain too innocent, I wouldn't keep up the devil hunter act if I did.... Pathetic isn't it? A piece of a whole, part of the four horsemen, one of humanities most feared concepts, having the heart of a human."
"Human heart are weak but that's their strength." Sei looked at her with a raised brow. "They get hurt and broken but they keep beating on, they fight on, humans are weak but they fight for what they believe in, even if against the odds, even if they know they will die, even if that death is the worst death, they stand and fight if that means those they are protecting get to live, those that they love.... Hearts are weak but love makes them strong, you have just learnt to love."
"I.... I guess." She looked out into the rain, feeling a bone snap back into place, always hating this part of healing, when it was the bone.
"But Sei, that doesn't answer the question, why no blood?"
"To me it is not only your hybrid blood that tastes off. That day, when Makima almost tested the theory that she'd survive, somehow that I still haven't figured out, has pushed her control over me.... So much hate.... 'Just drop dead'... A nice thing to tell your sister ey?" She looked up at Quanxi who silently listened to her. "Of course I didn't just drop dead as I am still here but lets just say my body is.... Falling apart." She gave a weak smile. "I guess I am dying as she wanted just in slow motion."
She had seen the hunter surprised a few times but never this much, eye wide and mouth slightly hanging open.
"You.... Are dying?"
"Mhm.... Slowly but surely my body is wasting away, losing its strength, unable to stay in one piece, those cancerous words ripping me apart from inside like wild dogs. Blood doesn't seem to help, only delays a reaction, unless I need it to heal, then my body uses it, if it was for anything else it would be coming up the same hole as it entered through. If I am always in blood deficiency I can ensure the moment I really need blood I will be able to have it without throwing it all up, plus with my body giving out, puking blood have been part of my life for a long time. And above all, tho a lesser reason, no blood, human, hybrid or devil entices me, I am almost repulsed by the taste of it, the smell I can still bare."
"And will this.... Get worst?"
"Sadly, if I drink or not, my body is still failing, I will once be too weak, laying dying in my own pool of blood and she'll have what she wanted."
"Is there like no way to counter it?"
"I wish, I would have found it in the last decade of my life if there was, I've already puked up more blood then normal, I will probably go out soon, in a year if I am any lucky."
"Is there nothing we can do? I can do?"
Sei smiled sadly.
"I never thought I'd see you cry." She said in a whisper, watching the streaks on the hunter's face. "This is why I avoid to bring it up, my time is limited and I want to enjoy what I have without it being a burden to the others."
"You will never be a burden." Quanxi used her free hand to caress Sei's face. "We'll find a way, I promise Sei."
"Quanxi, don't." It was useless, she fought to live only to die but that last death, that one she came to terms with, even if it came with pain too her, she didn't want others to suffer. She grabbed the hunters hand, placing her own over it, sticking it too her cheek. "There is no way, no answer, no prize, there is nothing."
"I will not sit by idly by as you die, the fiends would have their heart break, I would be devastated."
"It is something you need to accept."
"Maybe when the inevitable knocks at the door, for the moment, I won't." She promised. "I will find a way to save you Sei."
