Chapter Forty-Nine

June 20th 2023 - New York City - Jazz's Parent's House

Since MK's birthday we have both been super busy with work. With the fashion shows fast approaching we had so much to still get done plus the summer collection had just dropped too. This means I haven't had a chance this week to take her out on a date... Not just this week, it's been a while. Work had gotten the better of us and when we got home instead of getting ready for date night we both look at each other and say "Movie in the lounge?" Which is our typical night routine when we're staying together.

I knew she wasn't in the best headspace since her birthday and I wanted to do something a little different for us. We live fast paced lives in a fast paced city. As much fun as we have on our dates I think we both needed something a little more chill this week. We were at the Studio today putting in the overtime to get a few loose ends tied up, MK was tired and she was moody and proceeded to text me a very angry message when I left earlier than she was expecting me to. I also gave her no explanation of why I was leaving, I just said I had things to do. The text message was very long and I was in her bad books, that was clear. I just didn't want to ruin the surprise.

I went to The Louis' house to get everything ready and pick the keys up from Jazz. Jazz was letting us use the aquarium for our date night. It would just be us after closing hours. I had brought a few things to make a little picnic which I was currently assembling now. I had picked out all of MK's favourites and also remembered to bring the wine my Nanny gifted to us. She said to plan something special. What's more special than having the aquarium to ourselves, with a picnic whilst beautiful animals swim all around us. MK loved animals and she had been asking for me to take her for a while. We just hadn't found the time. Plus dinner dates are totally not our thing. We only really go to classy places if our parents are joining us and we find it boring. Not that we don't love spending time with our parents, just dinners in those types of places meant volume down, professional conversations and there was no playfulness. It was just sitting and eating which we do most nights together anyway.

I hoped when she figured out I was taking her on a date she'd stop being mad at me because I don't think I could keep a straight face when she would start lecturing me about leaving her alone at the offices. I would naturally point out she wasn't alone and the offices were pretty full due to everyone being at work tonight and she'd get even more pissy with me than she already was.

"Here are the keys, please remember to lock the door when you leave. I will be in so much trouble." "I will, I will." I say, taking the keys from her and putting them in the picnic basket I was borrowing from Lin. "Also I just want to point out that I hate how cute you are." "You and Western will sort things out and we can be in our love sick bubble together again." She shook her head as her eyes began to water. "Aww, Jazzy." I wrap her in a tight hug trying to comfort her before she gets too emotional. "I just miss him." "Then tell him that." "I said some horrible things." "You both did, you broke up, you were both upset." "I know but." "All you can do is try. I told MK I couldn't stand to look at her and look at us now." She wiped her tears off her cheeks as we pulled away. "The media loves you two." "I hate the media." She chuckled. The media has picked up on the fact we were dating, it's not like we tried to hide it when we were in public, we were both pretty open about it. The other interns at work asked me about it a few weeks back, Cam said he had been dying to bring it up for a while. Like I said we didn't really attempt to hide it, except acting professional at work and creating boundaries for everyone's sake. I was surprised they all held back for as long as they had done.

"I hope she likes this." Jazz says stealing a chocolate covered strawberry. "Jazz!" I scolded, she looked me dead in the eyes and bit into it. I rolled my own at her before turning back to packing everything in the basket. "I hope she likes it too. She's annoyed at me for leaving her at studio 22. Wait until she realises I took her car too." "She's gonna kill you." I shrugged knowing MK would be fine when she saw what I had planned.
