Since graduating from the academy last year, Kakashi Hatake had things to look forward to. He would wake up early every day, sometimes even before his father, just to get ready for the day. On his off days, he would insist spending them with his father, Sakumo Hatake, unless he is out on a mission. His father had taken notice of the changes his only son is facing and is very content that the boy had things to look forward to. It has been quite the challenge juggling between raising a boy and his duties as a high-ranked shinobi. "Look at our boy!" He would say to himself, hoping that his late wife somewhere out there would hear him. Despite his title as the 'White Fang of the Leaf', he was a very loving father to Kakashi – and a very proud one too. His last mission, however, essentially ruined his career as a ninja and it pained him to see how it affected him, but he could at least hold on to one last good thing in his life. His world was cold and dark, but at least Kakashi was his light at the end of the tunnel.
"Hey, dad! Dad!" Kakashi whispered, leaning on his bed. "You said we would go out for lunch today! Where are we going?"
"Good morning to you too..." He smiled warmly, slowly sitting up so the world wouldn't start spinning. He was growing rusty ever since that dreaded mission. It felt like he had to exert himself through the rest of his days. He had a burden lingering on the back of his mind, and it had grown heavier the more time passes. He thought about it a lot, hoping that it would diminish, but it only grew more persistent. Now he was growing more certain about this decision. Alas, he had to remain the same on the outside for his son. "It's a little bit too early for lunch, isn't it? It's only eight in the morning."
"Yea, well I'm excited!" He hopped like an energetic puppy, his silver hair following the movement. Kakashi may be a prodigy in the academy, but he is still a six-year-old kid after all. As a matter of fact, he just turned six a few days ago. "What's so special? My birthday passed, and Minato-sensei said I did well on his first test! So, what is it?"
Sakumo ruffled his spiky silver hair and chuckled. His heart sunk deeper, but it didn't change his mind one bit. He pulled Kakashi into one of his famous hugs that seemed to calm him down most of the time. "A lot of energy today, huh?"
"Can I show you what I learned yesterday?"
"Let's have some breakfast first." He effortlessly grabbed Kakashi by the waist, picking him up like he was a duffle bag. "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day."
As they were having breakfast, Kakashi couldn't stop rambling about him and his brand-new team. The outcome of the bell test their sensei had done on them made him feel even closer to his father. They share the same value when it comes to being a ninja. He inhaled his rice and natto like there is no tomorrow and zoomed through the dishes. Sakumo couldn't help but to smile at the light of his life, whom he had to sacrifice himself for. That's right. Kakashi hasn't noticed how his father's reputation could ultimately affect him in the future. He doesn't think Kakashi hasn't even noticed the change in the behaviour of the village people because he was so focused on his own little world, but that's all right. He loved Kakashi so much, he doesn't want his only family to re-live his new reputation. "Are you done with these? Can I wash them for you?
He snapped back out of his thoughts, "Yes, thank you."
"Is something the matter, dad?"
"No," he lied, "I'm just very excited to see what Minato-sensei taught you. Why don't we go to the forest today? We can have lunch there and you can show me what you learned."
"Yes, yes, yes!" He cheered, and quickly finished the remaining dishes for his father. There was a hunch in him, but his excitement was more dominant. He ran back to his room to grab his things and zoomed to the front of the house to put on his sandals.
