"Son, you may think that you are more skilled than him, but that does not give you the right to put him below you. I know his father, Mighty Duy, and I do admire the values he has taught to his son. He may be known as the Eternal Genin, but that didn't bother him at all." Sakumo sternly reminded. They had run into the Mightys on their way home, and he didn't like how Kakashi looked at them. He waited until they got home to sit his son down and have this discussion. They were in the living room at home with Kakashi sitting on the sofa and Sakumo kneeling on the floor in front of him.
"He's older than me, but he graduated from the academy with me. He was supposed to graduate first. He didn't even make it into the academy on the first try."
"Doesn't matter, Kakashi. You can't assume that everyone is on par with you. People develop at their own pace, and we must keep supporting them no matter what."
"He's going to bring his team down on missions."
"You don't know that." He gave his son a threatening look, "Kakashi Hatake, I didn't teach you to look down at people. I can't dictate everything, but I insist you keep these things to yourself. You don't know how much Duy has sacrificed, you don't know how hard he trained, and how hard he works for his son. So, you have no right."
Kakashi sulked, avoiding his father's strict glare.
"Kakashi Hatake, look at me!" He gripped on to his son's shoulders, "You must not disrespect the Mightys. You know well that Guy is already feeling bad about himself because of your natural talent, you do not need to put more salt in his wound, understood?"
"Yes, I understand."
"You must not underestimate people who have different skillset than you. That doesn't mean they're not equal. You have to be aware that you are privileged. Understood?"
"Understood, dad."
Sakumo brushed his son's hair off his eyes, "All of you will be great ninjas of the Leaf, but don't expect it to happen at the same time when you are all the same age. Their time will come, Kakashi. Everybody's journey is different, even if you're all heading to the same destination. At the rate he is training now when his time comes, he may even be better than you."
"How could you say that? I'm your son!" He scowled,
"Because I am trying to teach you a lesson. You'll see."
I guess dad may be right. Kakashi thought to himself, standing head-to-head with Mighty Guy for their chunin exam. Guy has been bothering him since they met at the academy with petty challenges, especially these races from one end of the village to the other, eating contests, and the random duels. Kakashi obliged just so he would stop showing up out of nowhere with all these silly challenges, but he never really acknowledges it. The one with the silver hair keeps winning most of the time, not to his surprise. Nonetheless, here they are now, standing face to face, both in their own battle stance, in the main arena for the chunin exams. Kakashi had his typical nonchalant stance; with his hands in his pockets and his signature bored expression underneath that mask.
"You don't have to go easy on me, my eternal rival." Guy smirked confidently, his right hand held out and legs apart.
He rolled his eyes and then took a peek at the crowd. Akira was there, sitting next to a brown-haired boy with a spiky and bushy ponytail and a mark through the centre of his face. It wasn't her time for the exams yet, so she was just there to watch. But who is that kid?
"Begin!" The referee yelled, knocking Kakashi out of his trance.
They both charged at each other, and it seemed that they were not slowing down as they get closer to each other. Kakashi pulled his fist to blow a hard punch at Guy's face, only for him to get blocked with his forearm. The force was strong, and they bounced back a few metres. Guy jumped high, far enough to reach above his opponent, and aimed to smash his fist at the target. It was a near miss as Kakashi was quick enough to backflip out of the way, leaving Guy to punch a crater-like hole in the ground. Without stopping for a breath, the green jumpsuit boy leapt up again, raising his right leg up in the air, smashing another hole in the ground as his opponent barely dodged the deadly kick.
