"Kakashi! You can't go! It's too dangerous!" She huffed, grabbing his hands to stop him from packing his gear.
"What's wrong with you?" He yelled back, pulling his hands away. "What are you doing?"
"You can't..." She trailed, inhaling a shaky breath. "You can't go out there."
He sighed, letting all his frustration and anger out in one go and forcing himself to be more patient with her. "I know you mean well, Akira, but I can't do that. I'm a Jonin now, it's my duty. This is what I've been assigned. You know that."
"You promised you'd protect me! I'm also going to war! How are you supposed to protect me when you're not with me?" She begged, on the verge of throwing a tantrum.
"That's not fair." He shook his head, "Don't say that. That's not fair, Akira."
"I'm gonna get killed. Iruka can't protect me. He's not you."
"Stop, Akira, please. Iruka will protect you no matter what." Panic began to brew in the back of his mind, but he had to be the bigger guy here. He began to think of the worst, his heartbeat becoming a mess. It felt like he was about to have a heart attack. He felt like he was trying to swim up the surface.
"What if I'm killed, Kakashi?"
"Stop. You're a Kekkei Genkai. No one can do what you can do."
"What if-"
He slammed his pouch on the floor and his weapons scattered all over the floor, "Stop! Akira, Stop! Shut up!"
She pursed her lips together to prevent more words from coming out, shrinking herself. Her emotions got the best of her. She didn't quiet learn yet from the time Kakashi told her off during their co-op mission. She wanted to seek comfort in him, even if he'll end up yelling at her.
"Don't make this harder than it already is. This is our first war, Akira. We have to set our feelings aside." His voice was high, almost yelling at her. He had the same feelings as her, but he tried to squish that all down and it was frustrating him.
"I'm not ready."
"Neither am I." He held her by the shoulders, "But this is our duty. Please don't say that to me. I will come back, I promise. I always come back."
She wrapped her arms around his chest, burying her face deep into his shirt, inhaling his scent. They had been on countless separate missions, but this felt really different. It was no surprise as it was their first Shinobi War, so doubt and fear clouded the air. It was the war that the Stone ninja that attacked Akira years ago in the grave was talking about. This was an advantage for the Leaf Village, but it left Akira shaken to the core. She could already imagine what was coming. She was so young back then, and listening to those men talk about the evil things they plan on doing haunted her. As the war begins, she could feel herself grow weary. "Please come back."
"I will." He stroked her hair, oblivious to her knowledge. The Stone ninja that attacked her that night said several things that Inoichi and Ibiki find interesting when they went through Akira's memory.
"Then we can have sweet buns." She mumbled in his shirt,
"I'd like that." He finally hugged her back, his arms wrapped around her neck and propped on her shoulders. "Akira, you have to stay safe. Don't be afraid to use your gift. It'll keep you safe."
"Okay, Kakashi." She was finally able to calm down in his arms. There were no tears involved, she had to suck that back in remembering how much it annoyed him. She expected him to turn into an ass, but graciously accepted her hug.
