The long hall that led to the Hokage's office was empty that it felt cold. Kakashi was waiting for Sakumo who was attending to the Hokage's call inside. He leaned on the wall with his head lolled back, huffing through his mask out of boredom. They were about to go out for lunch when an Anbu member showed up out of nowhere to notify the White Fang that he had been summoned by the Lord himself. It felt like hours had passed when the door finally clicked open and Sakumo stepped out. Kakashi looked at his father who had a worried look on his face, but instantly melted away when he looked at his son. "Come on, kiddo."

He raised his arms so that his father could pick him up, "What happened?"

Sakumo effortlessly lifted the three-year-old and sat him by the shoulders, "Just some ninja stuff."

He rested comfortably on his father's head, using his hair as a pillow.

"Let's head out for lunch. I bet you're hungry."

"I want to go fishing!" Kakashi kicked his feet excitedly,

"A splendid choice, my good sir."

The father and son had to stop by their house to get their fishing equipment before heading out to the lake outside the village. As they walk through the village, Kakashi noticed some hushed whispers going on but he wasn't sure if he should acknowledge it or not. He was still sitting on Sakumo's shoulders, and he felt his father's hands gripped tighter to his legs. "What's wrong?"

"What do you mean?"

"Is something the matter?"

"Nothing's wrong, Kakashi. I... I was just thinking if it would be a good day to... Um... To have a swim as well."

"Swimming! Swimming! Swimming!"

As they walked past the village gate out towards the lake, the guards gave Sakumo a strange look that Kakashi couldn't fathom. He continued walking along the path that led to the crystal-clear lake, secluded from civilisation. It wasn't their first time visiting, but today felt extra special.

The sun was warm and bright, and the surface of the lake was glistening. It was very inviting. Kakashi loved this place because it seemed like it was made for just the two of them.

Sakumo settled their things by the edge and prepared their fishing rods. He handed the smaller one to his son, "Here you go, son."

"Come fishing with me, dad!" His eyes beamed with excitement and pure happiness. He felt so safe when he was with his father, it was almost surreal. Kakashi held out his hand, his fingers wiggling uncontrollably like the ball of energy he is. "I'm going to catch a big fish for us!"

"Okay, I'm ready." He took his son's hand tightly. He followed Kakashi's adorable pitter-patter towards the shallow bank. Until he was sure that his boy's little feet stood steadily on the rocky surface, he let go. He fondly watched the little boy as he was struggling to get the bait out on the water.

It took a lot of concentration to get that stupid bait out on the water, and Kakashi was growing impatient. He repeatedly reeled in and out, but none was to his satisfaction. "Daaaad, I can't make it!"

"Don't worry too much. As long as it hits the water, son." He chuckled, "One more time with me."

He copied his father's exact move, and the bait landed on the surface of the water about half a metre away. It was finally to his satisfaction, only because he did it with Sakumo. He had a wide and toothy grin behind that mask, and it was visible because his eyes were squinting.

"Now we wait." He smiled back, patting Kakashi lovingly on the head.

"Hey, dad! When I catch a fish, can we cook it?"
