"What's the matter, little one? Did the thunder wake you up?" Sakumo sat on the dining table with a cup of hot tea,

"Yes. Where's mum and dad?"

"They're out. They'll be back tonight."

"Mission?"

"Mmhm!" He nodded and beckoned to her to sit on his lap, "Your father is with the Hokage and your mother is on her way back."

She shuffled to him, rubbing her tired eyes. Baba was with her. When she got to him, she raised her arms so Sakumo could pick her up. "Kakashi sleeping."

"Yeah, he sleeps like a rock sometimes." He giggled as he picked her up and wrapped her in his strong arms. "Do you want me to wait for the thunder to stop with you?"

"Yes, please." Her voice was timid,

"Sure. Would you like some warm milk while we wait?"

She shook her head, covering her ears as thunder boomed in the background.

Sakumo tightened his grip protectively, smiling at his wife who was watching from the heavens. They briefly discussed having another child before she got sick. If they had a daughter, maybe she would be like Akira. Adorable and sweet, curious and easily intrigued, caring and kind. Sometimes he wished she could see Akira, and how Kakashi would treat her. He loved Akira as if she was his own, mostly because of how significant she was to his son. His guilty pleasure was to imagine the two of them when they get older. Maybe they'll get married one day. They seem to complement each other.

"Uncle Sakumo?"

"Yes, Akira?"

"You okay?"

"I'm okay. Are you?"

"Yeah."

"That's good. Why did you ask me if I was okay?"

"You look like Kakashi when he's sad."

"Don't worry about me."

"Uncle Sakumo, do you want to play with me? Kakashi feels better if I play with him."

"I never got to thank you for being a good friend to Kakashi. Thank you, Akira. It really means a lot to me and him."

"Kakashi is my best friend."

"I hope you two will be friends forever."

"Me too, Uncle Sakumo."

"Can I ask you for a favour? Will you be his friend when you guys get older?"

She lolled her head back so she could see his face and gave him a wide grin, exposing her pearly whites. "I will!"

"Will you play with him when he's sad?"

"We can play in the blanket shield!"

"That sounds really fun. I wish I could join you, but I don't think I would fit."

"It's okay! We can get a bigger blanket!"

Sakumo laughed, entertained by her innocent answers. There was this sense of comfort in his heart. He had this feeling, a father's intuition, one would say. He just feels like Kakashi's future is already partially sorted out. His wife would love Akira, especially if she knows how much Akira affects the boy. "I think I'm too old for that."

"Do you think Kakashi and me will be too old for the blanket shield too?"

"There are many ways to protect the people you care about."

"What's the best way?"

"Depends. What makes you feel the safest?"

"Kakashi!" She answered in a heartbeat, because who else could? Who else would come running every time thunder shook the sky? Her eyes lit up when she said his name and her chest swelled with glee.
