As summer ends, the days grow shorter and the wind cools down. Slowly the green façade turned into autumn colours; this dark yellow colour that adds warmth to the falling temperature. Kakashi loitered right outside of the red building, basking in the setting sunlight and watching the leaves sway with the wind. The past two months felt like a dream, he needed some time to process his new reality. He held in his hand his and Akira's salary, which he insisted on picking it up for her – only so he could take a chunk of his pay and put it in her envelope without her knowledge. Like he said before they got married, he wants her to have an amount she can hold on to in case anything happens to him. He is a man who lives a simple lifestyle, he can get by with less than half of what he receives. Nothing much changed in their routine after getting married, but he just felt different. Kakashi took a deep breath and told himself, "I guess it's time to let dad know."
"Kakashi, my eternal rival!"
"Oh, hey."
"Are you headed out for a mission?"
"No, I'm just here to get our salary."
"Our salary. Adorable." Guy gushed, glancing at the two envelopes in his friend's hand. "Oi, are they not paying you enough?"
"How would you know?"
"Come on! You're my friend! I know how much you're supposed to earn!" He leaned closer to whisper, "It shouldn't look that thin, no? Are you having problems with Lord Third?"
"What? No!" Kakashi scowled and cleared his throat, "Perhaps you have forgotten that I'm married now. I give more than half to Akira and the house. That's our agreement."
"Kakashi..." A short gasp came out from Guy as he clasped his hands together to gush again, "What a youthful gentleman! I raised you right! Akira must be so happy! A happy wife is a happy life, am I right?"
He rolled his eye, chuckling at his black-haired friend. "It's not a problem. I was the one who suggested it."
"I'm just so proud of you."
"I'm doing my best, Guy."
"I couldn't stop crying at your wedding because I'm just so happy for you."
"I know, I noticed. I appreciate you caring about me."
"Are you two enjoying your new life? Not much should change. You've always been an old married couple since you were kids. Always bickering but can't live without each other."
"Yeah, sorry if I don't spend much time with you like old times."
"It's no worry. I've been quite busy too."
"You don't have to lie, my little acorn."
"Hey! Drop it! Leave that in the past! I've grown!"
"Don't worry about it, Guy." Kakashi gestured his hands dismissively, "It won't affect our friendship. I promise."
"It doesn't make me feel any better, Kakashi!"
"Are you headed out for a mission?"
"Yes, I'm just headed out."
"Walk with me. I'm going to visit my dad."
Guy felt a squeeze in his heart and pressed his lips together to suppress that overly-wide grin of his. He was suddenly reminded of the times when he had to come running to Kakashi only to get rejected. He just knew that Kakashi didn't want to be a bad friend, and he could tell just from the eye. Then there was the night of the nine-tails as well. That pale and hollow look Kakashi had when he lost hope and gave up. Guy had always been there during hard times, even if his help was not accepted. So, seeing him like this; with a glimmering spark in his eye, some colours on his face, and back to his old nonchalant self, felt quite relieving.
