track #02 in kunboss ryder bailey

itzy // mafia in the morning

I WAKE to my phone beeping from text messages from Andy and smile to myself.

a.clifford: see you later!

kunrbailey: yeah, looking forward to it ;)

I pull myself out of the comfy casing that is my bed and fold the duvet cover over itself, making my bed in less than five minutes. Then, I pick out an outfit from my ever-growing wardrobe; the trapdoor spits me a few suggestions, and I eventually go with just jeans and a green T-shirt.

I order some food and eat in silence in my own room before going down the stairs at 1:30, careful not to be too loud, but almost everyone is sitting on the couch, except Zoey, and when they see me, they stand, narrowing their eyes.

Cadence, Gwyneth and Eunice stare at me with arms crossed, blocking my way towards the exit.

"Just where do you think you're going, Kunboss Ryder Bailey?" Cadence asks sarcastically, and I shrug.

"Out to do my mission," I answer nonchalantly.

"As much as I'd like to stay mad at my ex-best friend, I'm still worried for your safety. Tristan and Aiden still aren't back. They haven't been since last night. So for now, until they return, no one can step out of the house," says Gwyneth sternly.

I narrow my eyebrows, ready to burst, but stifle my rage and put on a sickly smile. "You gave me this mission, and I'm going to carry it out, Anderson," I spit, mocking how she behaved yesterday night, and shoulder my bag, pushing past them and out to the foyer, where I crouch down to slip on my sneakers. As I adjust my shoelaces, I watch as she shakes her head and plops down onto the couch in defeat from the corner of my eye.

Eunice, however, is a different story. She jogs up to me with fury in her blazing orbs, grabbing my hand. "STAY. HERE," she growls, and I grab her wrist with my other arm, gently taking it off of mine.

"Can't you see she still wants the best for you?" Eunice questions, sarcasm in her voice. "You don't deserve Gwyn. You don't even deserve friends who care about you. They don't deserve the hate you bring into this world – imagine a best friend who would willingly kill your parents if it meant they could survive."

I bite my tongue to stop myself from cutting in, and she smiles. "Not you. You said you wouldn't care. But the rest of us do. So you know what? We don't care about you anymore. Go and die if that satisfies you."

I take one step out of the door just to spite her, and Eunice huffs. "Knew you'd do that," she spits, before slamming the door straight into my face with a bang, leaving me alone in the seaside streets with nothing but a tote bag.
