~L's POV~

Misa was missing, and I could tell Y/N was distraught.

I went through the texts, the evidence, again. Over and over I skimmed the words on the screen, trying to find something other than what my instinct told me. Unfortunately, I couldn't.

"Y/N... I think Misa's been kidnapped."

His lip quivered.

"What if we never see her again?" His voice broke, and tears welled in his eyes.

I didn't know what to do. I was always used to being around stoic, less emotional detectives. I wanted to help him. I did what came naturally, and gave him a hug. I felt the tension ease out of him as he wrapped his arms around me.

"We're going to find Misa. I promise," I said.

"Promise?"

"Promise."

I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and pulled away from him. His face flushed as he wiped the tears from his face.

For the next few days, routine was normal, except with a constant air of tension. Y/N also worked on this case quite a bit. To him, this case was personal. It was to me too. Y/N's happiness was my first priority. If finding Misa would make him happy, then I had to find Misa. Whatever it takes.

~Your POV~

It was devastating to find out that my best friend was missing. Poor Misa, probably kidnapped and afraid. I wanted to find her.

I needed to find her. Whenever I had free time, I was on the computer, trying to aid in her case. It was hard to find much of anything. The kidnapper was good at covering his tracks.

One day, I decided that I should go to Misa's house and see the crime scene in person. It didn't take much to convince Lawliet to come with me.

Watari drove us to her house, and every second my anxiety was growing. It was a knot in the pit of my stomach. Something sinister was going on.

Lawliet and I reached her home. We stood outside the door, seemingly waiting for her to open the door. A moment we knew wouldn't come. I took a deep breath. I turned the handle. It was unlocked.

I walked in and flipped the light switch. A dim light flittered on. Inside, everything was dark and eerie. It might've been her way of expressing herself, but to me it felt like a horror movie.

I immediately began to scour the shelves and furniture, hoping to find some sign of an invasion or kidnapper.

Within 3 hours, we studied every detail of the house. The only thing we found was a broken lock and a single muddy boot print.

We inspected the print closely, but it didn't match any of Misa's shoes. I assumed it must've been the kidnapper.

That was our only clue.

A single muddy print from a single muddy boot.
