~L's POV~
When the old farmhouse door opened to reveal a middle aged man in scrubs, my first thought was that his Joseph's brother looked nothing like him. My next thought was that this wasn't Joseph's brother at all. This was his mother's care nurse.
"Hello, welcome to the Marke household. How may I help you?" The salty-haired man asked through the screen mesh door.
"Is this the home of Joseph Marke and his brother?" I asked politely.
"Oh yes, are you here for them?"
"Yes we are."
"Come on in then!" My first impression was that this nurse had been in the field for a long time, and his bedside manner was nearly perfect.
He led us into the old wooden farmhouse, and sat us onto the couch in the cozy open living room.
I had a clear view of the kitchen and dining room, and saw a staircase that must've led to the Marke brother's bedrooms.
In the dining room was a cot, and lying in that cot was a frail old woman that was nothing but a skeleton, with a thin layer of skin stretched over it and some sparse tufts of white hair. She was covered in a thin white sheet, and the nurse rushed around the room and tried his best to make her as comfortable as possible.
Once the nurse finishes with his work, he comes and sits on the other side of the coffee table on a small, worn armchair.
"So, sirs, I suppose I should introduce myself." the nurse looks between Yume and I with a slightly nervous look on his face, "I'm Herald Gray. I'm Mary Marke's live-in care nurse, making sure she's comfortable in her home in her final days."
The skeleton coughs and sighs, and the nurse looks back at what's left of poor Mary Marke. "Yes, Mary, I'm aware you will absolutely survive your cancer and you will be fine soon."
I looked at the frail old woman who was unaware or unwilling to believe that she was on her deathbed. I looked over at Yume, who's brows were furrowed in sadness and pity.
Herald looked at us again, "She's a stubborn survivor. Now, what business do you have with the Marke brothers?"
Yume cleared his throat and began to speak. "I apologize, but if I disclose that information, I might give the poor woman a heart attack. Could we find a more private area?"
I nodded in agreement, looking at the poor skeleton woman again.
"Mary, I'm going on the porch for a while, if you need me, just holler!" Herald stood, and we followed suit.
He led us out a back door, to a wide porch overlooking an overgrown backyard.
"It's not my job to take care of the house, just the woman. The brothers can do that. Now, can we continue our conversation here?" He said, sitting down in one of the many rocking chairs.
"Yes. The Marke brothers have been found guilty of a kidnapping. What can you tell us about Joseph's brother?" I said, getting straight to the point.
"His name is Jacob Marke. He's two years younger than Joseph and follows him around like a lost puppy. He would do anything that Joseph tells him to. So what did Joseph and Jacob get up to?"
"Joseph traveled to Japan, kidnapped an up and coming model Misa Amane in a sexually frustrated, hormone fueled drive. He used Jacob as transportation. When Jacob arrives back here, we will convict and interrogate him, and bring Misa back to Japan." Yume explains, although quite harshly.
"I... I see. Jacob should be arriving here in.." Herald checks his watch, "half an hour."
"Great, we will wait here until then." I said.
(Wrauuhfhfhhf help me I keep making this longer and longer without meaning to T-T)
