Y/n POV
5 weeks later...
"Okay I've seen enough for today. Let's pick back up in the morning. Great work today everyone." The backup dancers clapped and left out swiftly. We'd been trying to sync the choreography with the different musical arrangements we have and it's been going smoothly. We're a bit behind because of the production for the set came in a month later than we needed it. We needed another month get acquainted with the band as well because my guitarist had her baby a few months back. I'm glad I decided to take eight months to rehearse otherwise we would've been screwed.
I can't lie and say it hasn't been stressful preparing for something this big. I've toured before, both as an opener and solo. But I've never worked on something for this grand of a stage. Not to mention, Beyoncé is watching my every move. I'm so grateful for her mentoring but her presence is intimidating. She's been pretty much hands off and watching my process from afar, but I know she has notes. So I'm meeting with her for dinner tonight since we've only been communicating through texts.
"Hey Y/n how are you?" She pulled me into a side hug before sitting back down.
"I'm pretty good, tired but I'm doing good. A lot going on right now."
"I heard, I know you've been working hard. I love the arrangements you sent me for the first act of your set. How many costume changes did you say you were gonna have?"
"About two or three. We're working on securing a designer for the third act since it'll be full of most of music from my new album and a couple unreleased songs I have on Soundcloud that we're releasing with the deluxe the day of the first weekend. Those songs have a 90s, hip hop feel to it so I want the looks to be authentic." I also love the third act because it brings me back to the beginning of my career and reminds me of where I came from with the old music and compares to where I am now by coupling it with the new music.
"Who's in the lineup for designers?"
"Nike, Adidas, and some other big ones like Tommy Hilfiger and Mugler. I'm leaning towards Adidas because they really had that era on lock. The track suits, sneakers, all of it. What do you think?" And please give me a real answer this time.
"You know I can't tell you everything I think. I want you to make the decisions that you think will benefit your show." Typical Bey.
"I know, I know. It was worth a shot. I'm just nervous, I want the show to be perfect but I want it to be an experience. I want people to leave with the memory of this show etched into their brains. It's like at every turn there's something that's—"
"Fucking up, delayed, not ready?"
"Yes," I rubbed my temples. "It's like people forget what industry they decided to work in. If you know we're working on a show, why are we being so—"
"Slow, lackadaisical?" she chuckled knowingly
"Unprepared, lazy,"
"Borderline useless!" we said at the same time sparking a laugh.
"I hate to sound like I'm complaining but I just want people to take this as serious as I am. But I don't want to be labeled as a bitch or 'hard to work with' in the process." I continued to eat my food.
"Unfortunately, you're gonna have to get over that. I used to feel the same way, people would get irritated or upset because I would be picky and want things a certain way. I didn't want to settle and I shouldn't have to. People expect perfection when they watch an artist perform, so I expect perfection from my team if it's feasible. People will say what they want to say but at the end of the day, your fans will always thank you for giving it your all and expecting your teams to give it their all."
