Omniscient POV

"So are you excited? Nervous? Both? Talk to me." Y/n grabbed her wife's hand as she drove to Normani's OB/GYN appointment. Today was the day they'd find out the gender of the baby for sure.

"I'm excited because I want to know. But I'm also nervous for other reasons." Normani beams.

"And those reasons are?" Y/n raises an eyebrow and squeezes Mani's hand to encourage her to continue.

"Well, this has nothing to do with the gender per say," she takes a small pause. "We're getting closer and closer to being parents and I feel like I'm stuck in limbo, you know? I feel ready, but then I imagine a specific situation, and I draw a blank. Then I think, am I really ready?"

"I understand baby. We're both new to this so I understand where you're coming from. But that's okay! We just gotta take it a day at a time, learn as we go, and laugh at our mistakes as we do. You got this especially. You have like, all the best qualities from your parents and then some. You'll know what to do when the time comes." Y/n kisses her hand and Normani relaxes.

"You really think so?"

"I know so. You are so attentive and tuned into everyone you love like you have spidey-senses or something. You're gonna be the best mom." Normani bit her lip nervously and nodded. She loved how she could talk to Y/n about anything she's feeling without having to filter herself. Y/n just gets it.

"Thank you." she kissed Y/n's cheek as they parked the car. Y/n hopped out to open the door for Mani and help her out of the car. "You know I can help myself out of the car right?" Mani chuckled.

"I know you got it baby. And you know I'm not giving you anything less than royal treatment. Especially now." Y/n kissed her wife sweetly on the lips and the two walked into the building and signed in. Soon their names were called and they walked back to the room.

"Hey you two! How's the mom to be?" Dr. Wright came into the office.

"I'm doing great! Morning sickness finally went away, but was replaced with being emotional. I cry at almost everything and I'm almost always hungry." the three laugh.

"As annoying as those symptoms are, they are normal so those are good signs. Regarding the hunger, you've been making sure she eats well right?" Dr. Wright addresses Y/n

"Of course. Balanced meals with snacks in between." she smiles

"She's been great." Normani looks at her wife and smiles. It's something about watching Y/n dote over her that makes her heart melt and fall in love all over again. She can only imagine how she'll feel when the baby comes.

"That's what I like to hear! So let's get you into the exam room. We're gonna take a look at your blood pressure, your baby's heartbeat, and find out the gender!"

"Sounds good, thank you!" Normani smiles. Soon the nurse, Kennedy, comes in and escorts them to the room. Y/n helps Normani onto the bed while Kennedy sets up the ultrasound machine and brings in the cart with other things on it for the checkup. After everything comes out great, it was time to take a look at the baby once again.

"The gel is gonna be a bit cold at first, okay?" Normani nods and Y/n holds her hand, trying to calm her own nerves now. "Here we go."

Mani winces at the coldness of the gel, but quickly gets used to it. She holds onto Y/n's hand tightly as Kennedy searches for the face of the baby. Soon you can hear the heartbeat over the computer speaker.

"That's your baby's heartbeat, it's very strong," Kennedy pauses and leans in closer to the computer with a puzzled look on her face. She then turns the monitor back so only she could see. Y/n notices Normani seems a bit uneasy so she speaks up.
