20: Last Hour ⏱️

I was sitting on the bench in the pantry while munching on my favourite biscuits when I heard footsteps approaching the room.

I looked up to see Enji entering the pantry and taking raspberry cookies. I stood beside him and observed his actions. "You know these biscuits are better."

I extended my packet of biscuits to him but he looked at me with a straight face. "Would you mind telling me my symbol? As you can see, I lost my partner so it would be of help."

He stared at me but then walked past me but my words paused him. "I think that you should know this. The man you have partnered up with is a murderer."

He turned to me and frowned at me. "What?"

"His name is Oki Yaba. It was in the newspaper. He slaughtered four women so that makes him a serial killer. You know, that makes it punishable by law."

"That's a filthy lie." Enji replied with a scrunching nose when I started. "No, it's true. Know what I think? He's the Spy."

Enji was listening to me calmly when I continued. "There's only five of us left. Time is running out. The Spy will start to get even more aggressive now." I looked at him and added. "Might as well share our symbols."

Enji gave me a puzzled look and I slowly walked to him. "For now, you're in a really good position. The Spy still trusts you. So if anyone can lie to the Spy, it has to be you. Which means the only way to end this game is when you lie to the Spy."

He tilted his head at me, still processing everything. I smiled at him. "You are the key player."

I crossed my arms and walked across him to stand behind him. "I know this is a lot to process and you don't believe me yet. But I don't have an advantage to lie to you as well. So I'll tell you your symbol. Don't you want to confirm your symbol once Oki tells you?"

"What makes you think that I'll trust you over him?" He questions, siding his head to peek back at me. "You don't have to if you want to. But if I were in your shoes then I would like to weigh my options before choosing one. Oki is a murderer and that's a fact and I've got no reason to lie to you."

He turned around to face me with a stern gaze. "But I still don't trust you."

I nodded and munched on the biscuit from my packet and stared at him. "Fine, you'll know the result once this round is over. You are a Spade, just so you know." I said and turned my back, showing my collar, "Will you tell me mine?"

He was silent so I pressed again. "Come on, I said to you. You can tell me about mine!"

"But I never agreed with this deal." He said and walked past me. I looked at him but he paused and turned to look at me before saying. "Heart."

I observed him going out of the pantry and smiled at myself. "Then it's definitely not a heart."

Then the only woman who is still alive in this game enters the pantry.

Kyomi Banda.

She looks at me before walking past me to go to the same cookies section that Enji got one from. "Your brother. Isn't he suspicious?" I asked and she looked up at me in surprise.

"Sunato Banda is a con artist. Don't you think that he can trick you into saying the wrong symbol?" I asked again but she was silent.

I turned my back to her. "I can tell your symbol but could you tell me mine? I've lost my partner." I said calmly.

She was still silent.

"I asked Enji as well but he said it was a club. Is it true?" I asked and turned to look at her. "Oh, come on. I'll tell you yours."

She looked at me silently before walking away.

“15 minutes are left, please get into your cell.”

I smiled and slowly walked towards my cell. I saw the four other players getting inside the cell. "This is the final round." I mumbled and entered my cell.

“Please say your choice among Spade, Club, Heart and Diamond.”

Since Enji said it, it'd never be a heart. And it won't be a club either since the expression that Kyomi made was pretty visible.

That leaves me with only two choices: Spade and Diamond.

I looked at the timer in front of me which was ticking every second.

I sighed, closed my eyes and recalled Mirae.

Oh, how much I wish you were here with me, partner.

I smiled at her thoughts and then opened my eyes, thinking about my answer and mumbling.

"Looks like I'll have to go with my guts this time."

Inspired by the episode of Alice in Boundary 2  Solitary Confinement. I had to add this scene after watching the episode because this Taehyung reminded me a bit of Chishiya.
