42: Stake 🎲

Suddenly the floor below us lit up showing us small blocks with numbers written on it. We exchanged glances when Jenny spoke.

“Now we will play, Stake and Ladder. It's different from Snake and Ladder because here instead of Snake biting you, we will have your lives at stake.”

Our wristbands glowed. I looked at mine. I saw a heart symbol.

Jimin had a club and Namjoon had a diamond.

While Taehyung had a spade.

“There are 100 squares and we will use a deck of 52 cards. A player will roll a dice and the number they will get will determine the number of cards they can pick from the shuffled deck.

The point of the card will help the respective symbol bearing players to move up the blocks. The one to survive and reach closest to 100 will win.

Now comes the fun part, the function of the ladder. If someone reaches the ladder then it won't help you skip blocks but instead you will have to kill the person closest to the other end of the ladder.”

My eyes widened and I looked at others. Jimin was shocked like me. I saw Namjoon gripping the knife tightly and Taehyung was blankly staring.

“The order will be from the lowest to the highest suite of the card. That means the club, diamond, heart and then spades.”

Jenny giggled and opened both her arms while laughing like a maniac.

Yoongi approached us, holding a cushion in his hand which had the dice on it. Jimin took the dice from it while staring at Yoongi who seemed to not recognise Jimin at all.

"Let the final death game begin!"

The four of us looked at each other but then stood next to the blocks. Jimin tossed the dice.

A moving cart approached him, having all the cards laid neatly. Jimin extended his hand to choose 3 cards.

"Kim Taehyung move forward the spaces, Yang Mirae move forward 2 spaces, Kim Namjoon move forward 3 spaces and Park Jimin move forward 9 spaces."

Namjoon and Taehyung stood on the same block while Jimin and I stood on our respective blocks.

"Kim Namjoon will roll the dice now."

The cart moved towards Namjoon. He rolled the dice.

He chose two cards from the lot.

Taehyung and Jimin moved to the respective blocks as the mechanical voice announced them to.

"Yang Mirae will roll the dice now."

I rolled the dice.

I took 6 cards from the lot and turned them around to see the results.

"Park Jimin move forward 17 blocks, Kim Taehyung move forward 6 blocks, Kim Namjoon move forward 8 blocks and Yang Mirae move forward 3 blocks."

Jimin moved forward a lot and gladly landed on a ladder and moved even further.

I was left behind a lot.

"Kim Taehyung will roll the dice now."

Taehyung rolled the dice.

He chose three cards from the deck.

He looked at me darkly and then at Namjoon whose eyes widened. He moved forward 20 spaces and I moved forward 5 spaces.

Namjoon landed on a ladder and went to the exact same spot where Jimin was standing. Jimin looked at Namjoon blankly before the mechanical voice spoke.

"We will ask you a general knowledge question. The one who answers correctly wins and gets to kill the opponent. If you answer incorrectly, your opponent gets to kill you. Since Jimin reached the spot first, we will ask him the question."

Namjoon's eyes widened and he looked at Jimin who seemed disturbed.

"Ramp walks and cat walks are different. They have different:
• Walking Styles
• Dress sense"

Namjoon glared at Jenny, watching us okay with a smirk on her lips. "He is a model, of course, he knows the answer!"

"Walking style!" Jimin answered and Namjoon looked at him in shock. Jimin blankly raised his knife at him. "Jimin, you don't want to do this. You know it well."

"Let's just end things, Namjoon. I know you lost both: the person you love and the one who loves you. You don't have a reason to live." Jimin said and Namjoon blinked.

"You could neither get Mirae nor Jin. So just give up and die." He said and I frowned. "Jimin, what are you-"

"Not a word, Mirae! Not a single word!" Jimin said and instantly stabbed Namjoon on the throat.

I gasped and shut my eyes as soon as I saw Namjoon's eyes bulged out and then I heard a thud. Tears streamed down my face as I mumbled.

"This game is turning all of us into monsters without emotions."
