38: Riddle 🧠

Namjoon's POV

I was seated in the room when a middle-aged man entered the room and took a seat on the opposite side of the table.

We looked at each other until the mechanical voice spoke.

"Welcome to the gaming arena. We will be playing The Game of Brains."

"There are no rules. We will ask you questions until you fail to answer. So we will start with Kim Namjoon."

"You need to spend a night in a building where there is no power. There are three rooms in this building. On the door of each room there are three different signs. One says "Lions Inside - anyone goes inside becomes their supper", the second one says "Open the door and a machine gun starts firing" and the third one says "Electric Room - touch anything and you will die". Which room would you choose?"

"Electric room. Because there's no power in the building." I replied immediately. The man chuckled in front of me.

"Ah, yes, right. Young blood. My, my, my and to think you're too young for the death penalty. Mhmm," the man said, "If only there was a way to count the remaining time in your life."

I grinned, rested my hands on the table and nodded. "Oh, I know, and I think you do too, Tyler. All we need is to wait and see who wins."

He looked uncomfortable. "You know you can't do that," he said in a quiet voice.

I arched an eyebrow at him. "Although this may be true, wouldn't it be better if we just wait and watch instead of arguing here?" Tyler nodded.

"The next question is for the famous prison breaker, James Tyler."

Tyler jumped out of his chair, his face tense, his lips pursed.

Oh, so he's the same person who was in headlines a few weeks ago. I read the news article about him. His son was being interviewed in that video.

"Ask me the question quickly, you fool," he said with an intense fierceness in his voice.

"Where does Friday comes before Thursday?"

He chuckled before answering instantly. "In a dictionary."

And then the rounds continued. Both of us were giving answers. We were tired of answering so I thought I should try another tactic this time.

"The next question is for James Tyler. When can you make the following equation correct?
14+1=3"

I chuckled and saw frowning at me. "You must know this, prison breaker."

I knew I had hit a nerve so I continued down the path. "Fine, but you do know that your son is going to end up just like his father.... found dead in a game. However, unlike his daddy, he probably wouldn't reach this far, he'd probably get beaten up in the very first round."

"Enough!" Tyler shouted. "You bastar-"

I held out my hand for him to hold his tongue. "Listen," I said in a calm, soothing voice, "Do you even know the answer to this question I ask you?"

"What!?"

"How can you spell 80 with just two letters?"

"A-T!"

"Good, what comes three days after the day which comes two days after the day that comes immediately after the day that comes two days after Monday?"

His face turned into horror. "What the fuck?"

I chuckled and shook my head. "Work backwards from Monday:
Two days after Monday is Wednesday.
The day immediately after Wednesday is Thursday.
Two days after Thursday is Saturday.
Three days after Saturday is Tuesday.
The answer is Tuesday!"

"I don't even want to understand that! Shut up-"

"Please answer the question in 10 seconds."

His eyes widened. "What was the question?" He asked and looked at me.

"It was something related to clocks. Wait! The answer is 1!"

"Wrong answer!"

Immediately, his eyes bulged out, blood coming out of his mouth and his head collapsed on the table. Probably, the wristband injected something poisonous in his body.

"The question was when is the equation, 14+1=3. The answer is a clock. 14+1 is 15 which is 3 o'clock in a 24 hour clock."

I snorted and then felt my head spinning suddenly.

"Congratulations to Kim Namjoon who cleared this round. The last round will begin shortly."

I blinked several times trying to keep my vision steady. Before I lost consciousness, I tried to mumble softly.

"What is happening? Did I lose?"
