29: Indian poker 🎰

Mirae's POV

I looked at Taehyung, who was sitting beside me. He smiled at me and we looked at the two people sitting in front of us.

My head is still aching but I still need to play or else I'll be eliminated straight away.

“Welcome to round 4. Today we will play Indian Poker.”

“A group of 4 plays with a 40 card deck with all the jokers and face cards removed.

The dealer will pass out the first card, which players may look at.

A second card will then be dealt, which the player may not look at, and has to place on their forehead.

The strongest match is a pair, where the numbers match, the next strongest is a suit, which is self-explanatory, and the weakest is a pig, where neither number nor suit match.

If multiple players have the same hand then the largest number wins.

The game takes place over 10 turns, and each player needs to play at least one chip in each round to participate. And a maximum of 5 chips can be played at once.

The players for this game are Jun, Nanami, Taehyung and Mirae. Now we will distribute the cards.”

The host starts distributing the cards, two for each of us. And I feel like Taehyung holding my hand under the table. I looked at him and he gave me a reassuring look.

I smiled until the voice spoke.

“Round 1 begins.”

All of us holds the public card over our forehead and see each other's card.

Jun's public card is a 9 of clubs, and his private card is unknown.

My public card is a 7 of clubs, and my private card is 8 of hearts.

Nanami's public card is 3 of the spades, and her private card is a private card so I cannot see.

Taehyung's public card is 8 of clubs, and his private card is unknown.

Jun bets one Jun chip, Nanami calls with one Nanami chip, I call with one Mirae chip. Taehyung folds (forfeits to bet).

Jun wins. Because he has the strongest match and gets all the three chips.

“Round 2 begins.”

None of us decide to show our cards. All cards are unknown.

Nanami bets one Nanami chip. I turn to look at Taehyung. He extends his hand to me under the table. I place my hand over his.

He uses his finger to draw the shapes and numbers onto my hands to share his cards. My eyes widened. He shakes his head, telling me not to bet in this round.

I fold, Taehyung folds, Jun raises four Jun chips himself. Nanami gets suspicious of Jun for betting so much so she folds back her chip.

Jun wins and saves his 4 chips.

Jun chuckled and looked at us. "I must say that you are lucky this time." He said to Taehyung.

Taehyung looks at him calmly before telling. "I'm not lucky, I'm just cheating." My eyes widened and I looked at him in shock.

Taehyung turned to gaze at me but shrugged. Jun glared at the host, pointing at Taehyung. "Did you hear that? He's cheating! He should be eliminated."

“It is your fault to be deceived. There was no rule about not cheating in this game.”

I heard Taehyung giggling beside me and counting his chips. Jun glared at us when the dealer passed the next round of two cards to each player.

“Round 3 begins.”

My cards are a 4 and 10 of hearts.

All other cards are unknown.

Atleast I have a strong match. Same suit with high numbers too. So I should bet.

I bet one Mirae chip, Taehyung folds.

Why is Taehyung backing away from betting?

Jun raises two Jun chips, Nanami folds, I raise three Mirae chips, Jun calls two Jun chips.

Bad choice, brother. I smirk at him.

I win and get 5 chips to myself. I looked at Taehyung who smiled at me but then looked in the front until the mechanical voice spoke again.
