We end up winning the game, but the whole time Junpei and Kagami seem out of it. Whatever it is that they've gotta tell me must be really important.

After the game, we all head back to school on the bus.

Kagami walks with me and Junpei to the car. I cross my arms and look at the floor because I still don't know what it is they're gonna tell me.

"I uh- I'll see you later." Kagami states. "Let me know if you need anything. I'm just a call away."

I nod and Kagami pulls me into a hug and kisses the top of my head.

He walks to his car and Junpei and I enter his. As soon as the car doors close I speak.

"Alright, I'm tired of waiting. What's so important that you have to tell me."

"Maybe Dad should be the one to tell yo-!" Junpei starts.

"No, tell me, now!" I demand.

Junpei turns his car on and sighs.

"It's mom."

My heart stops in my chest. I hold my breath and my eyes get watery.

Is she gone? Did I miss my chance to say goodbye...

"The doctors called and- and well...they say moms getting worse..." he trails off. "Dads told me to tell you after school because he didn't want you to be stressed at school- I-I told Kagami so he would know why you seem upset tomorrow."

I don't notice I'm crying until a tear hits my hand.

"You okay?" Junpei asked.

I shake my head no.

"Trust me, (Y/n), I'm just as upset as you are, but we've gotta keep hoping she'll get better soon."

I nod my head. I don't trust my voice right now.

We sit in silence, but Junpei reaches over and wipes my tears away.

"I think I wanna go to L.A. for a while..." I say.

The rest of the ride is silent.

Once we make it home, I hug Junpei and go to my room.

I pull my phone out my pocket and see there's a text from Kagami.

Loser🐯 make it home?

Yeah.
