Pacifica couldn't believe she had done this.
Now she and Gideon were on a boat sneaking away from their parents. Pacifica would row the boat, but Gideon used his magic to make it easier for the both of them. Pacifica looked at the direction they were going, she was anxious to see this so called Cult of the Tao. She had many questions — Why were they called the Cult of the Tao? What kind of religion did they believe? Why were they erasing memories from the townsfolk? She was sure she could get the answer to at least some of her questions.
"Paz, look!" Gideon pointed to the water. "Look! There are so many little fishes!"
Pacifica turned her head to Gideon, then to his finger, then to where he pointed to. She saw a bunch of fishes swimming away fast as if they were running from something — but what could they be running from? Must be just an impression, this lake didn't have any sharks of seals, so why worry?
Well, that's what Pacifica thought before a giant green sea monster emerged from the water in front of their boat.
Where did that even come from?
Gideon held his amulet firmly and held Pacifica's wrist. The creature dived on the water and Gideon turned the boat to leave. Pacifica held tightly on the edges of the boat as she fell down to sit. Waves were formed and they threw the boat back, forcing it to get back to where they were going. The boat was surrounded by a glow, it rose in the air and quickly flew away from the monster. A relieved sigh came from Pacifica. "Thanks, Gid," she said, leaning her head back. "You saved us."
"P—Pacifica," his tone made Pacifica look at him in worry. "Since when is my magic green?"
Pacifica's eyes went wide as she realised the glow that carried their boat was green. Gideon wasn't doing anything — so who was?
Gideon surrounded himself and Pacifica with a blue glow, but before they could move, a green glow froze them. Gideon looked around desperately, wondering who could be doing this and how were they seeing the two so far in the sky. Pacifica noticed the sea creature that attacked them following the boat peacefully, she gulped. Gideon managed to release him and his sister from the green glow using his amulet, the glow that surrounded the boat disappeared without any of them realising it until the boat was falling down. Pacifica's eyes went wide and she instinctively screamed in fear, forgetting for a second that Gideon could save the both of them, he held her onto a hug and a blue glow surrounded the siblings and the boat.
Pacifica's breath was slow, she could have sworn that her life just flashed through her eyes. The height they fell of was huge, no one would survive a fall like that. And to make it worse, there was a land with grass beneath them, if they hit it, they'd definitely die. Gideon had other thoughts on his head, he watched with amazed eyes at the big building standing before him.
"Pacifica, look!"
She turned her eyes to the front, they widened even more (if that was even possible). A big palace with white, black and green walls stood before her, on the top of the roof were two tao symbols with little eyes on the circles inside, instead of white, the tao was green and black. The rooftop held a transparent green cloth, the last floor (probably the fifth or sixth) was covered in golden doors as if they were from multiple rooms — or if one single room had that many doors. A grin slowly formed on Pacifica's face.
"A palace hidden in the lake" Gideon exclaimed. "So cool!"
"Gideon, I think we found them!" Pacifica said. "The Cult of the Taoist Eye, this is where they live!"
"Wait, really?" Gideon asked. "How are you so sure?"
"Look at the taos, who else could be here?"
Gideon giggled. "You're right."
