At every sip of tea Wendy drank, the more her hands shook.
For the first time in her life, she felt anxiety. But for what? She truly didn't know. Fear, maybe. She never felt this, what was going on with her? Why was her body acting like this? Making her bite things she usually didn't — like her nails — and not allow her to sleep at night, and when she did, her dreams were black, empty, there were no dreams anymore, not even the usual simple dreams of her standing on her throne as the rest of the gods knelt before her. All gone, there was only darkness.
She finally put the tea cup down and rested her head on her pillow, staring endlessly at the roof. Maybe this all started because of him. Because of her Emperor. Maybe she did actually find him, and this separation was making her lose herself. Why else would her demeanor suddenly change? It had to do with something outside of the palace.
Part of her told her that she was just still frightened due to her amulet being snatched from her before, she was not used to having it out of her and was still recovering. But she felt like that was not it. Fear of losing her goddess essence was something she felt, that's true, but she never reacted like that, so why now it would be different? It was something else. And there was only one cure for it.
Her ascension, and her Emperor.
Knock knock knock.
Wendy sat down on her bed, she turned her head to the door and asked: "Who is it?"
"It's me, Your Majesty," Blind Fidds said from behind the door. "May I come in?"
"The door is opened." Wendy replied.
The door opened and Blind Fidds came in. He stopped, in shock, surprise in his eyes. Wendy raised an eyebrow. "Is anything the matter?"
"No, not at all," Fiddleford said. "I just didn't expect you to be wearing. . ." he looked at her clothing. "Something different, not Chinese, inside the palace."
Indeed, Wendy looked different from the usual; Her hair was let down, no bouffants and nothing up, still her forehead was showing since her fringe was tied behind her head by a clip. Instead of the hanfu and the jacket, she wore a simple green dress with the skirt hitting her knees. She had no shoes on her feet, but there were a pair of white slippers right next to the feet of the bed.
"Can't an Empress stay comfortable inside her own palace?" Wendy asked.
"Of course, Your Majesty," Blind Fidds replied. "I just didn't expect it." he added.
Wendy turned her body and her feet stepped on the cold floor beneath her. She dragged her slippers closer with her feet and put them on. "What do you want? Praying has ended hours ago."
"There's just something I've been meaning to share with you." Blind Fidds shut the door behind him and walked closer to Wendy.
"Spit it out." Wendy demanded.
Blind Fidds pulled a rectangular black book from his robe. On the cover was a golden hand with six fingers (seriously, an extra finger?) with a number stamped on it: the number 2. Wendy blinked with cold, judging eyes.
"A book? And it's the second one?"
"Yes," Blind Fidds said. "This book, here, has magic."
Now that she remembered, she did see Pacifica with a book like that, but with a number three instead. Now she could match levels, and maybe, be more powerful than her. The precedent book should always be better than the successor, right?
"But, unfortunately, I cannot get a hold of the other two books," Blind Fidds said. "This can — no, will help us, Your Majesty. This will help us bring you back to the Heavens."
