"I can't believe you managed to spend a hundred on capes." Pacifica said as she dragged her cart to the car's boot.
"Come on, I love capes!" Gideon said. "I'm even wearing one right now." he said, throwing said cape back. The cape he referred to and wore at the moment was a white one with the front being wrapped around the black necklace he used as an alibi for his amulet. "Besides, what's so fun about only having one, when you could have a hundred?"
"You bought a hundred capes?" Bud asked, concerned.
"Nope, just twenty." Gideon replied. "Some of those are medieval. Others are Halloween style - I even have one for Summerween!"
"Summerween?" Pacifica asked.
"It's our town's summer version of Halloween." Bud explained, opening the car boot. "But, well, not many people celebrate it anymore because we like the traditional timing of Halloween better."
"Hm, got it." Pacifica said, putting her stuff on the car boot with Gideon and Bud. "Hey, uh, I met a boy at the store today."
Gideon turned to her with a silly smile as he carefully put a luminary on the boot. "Was he cute?"
Pacifica blinked twice. "Kinda? I couldn't really tell." she said, moving between the cart and the boot. "He was wearing a hood over his head, and-"
"Wait, did he have an eye patch?" Gideon asked.
"Yes. How did you know?" Considering the boy had mentioned Gideon in particular, she could guess the two knew each other personally. But it doesn't kill to ask.
"Oh, I know him!" Gideon said, putting some of his capes inside. "That's one of my friends."
As she expected. "He didn't tell me his name, though." Also, what was with his irises?
Gideon blinked. Why are we talking through minds now?
I don't know. I just felt something. . . Odd, about him, especially with those pupils. Are they real or lenses?
Gideon looked around him. No, they're not lenses.
Pacifica frowned. Then what are they about?
I can't tell you yet. But trust me, it's nothing bad. Gideon smiled reassuringly.
Okay. Pacifica and Gideon finished putting their stuff inside, and now, Pacifica noticed the fake body parts Bud put on the boot. "Um, Mr. Corduroy- I mean, Bud," he looked up at him, with him looking back to her. "What's this?"
Bud looked at where she glanced. "Oh, that? Just another one of my ideas for the shop." he said. "Some people have been saying that gnomes were walking around the pastries and diners of town, and I thought: Hey, what if it's not just a gnome, but a little elf as well? Or maybe, a hybrid: a gnelf!"
Gideon giggled. "That's a nice one, dad." he raised his arms in the air and drew them apart as he repeated: "Gnelf."
"Thank you, son." Bud smiled, proudly.
So that's the kind of stuff selling in the family's shop. Isn't that just wonderful?
"So, while the competition doesn't start, let's get you signed up." Bud told Pacifica. "It's starts in the middle of the afternoon, and also, don't be so surprised to how downtown will look."
"I've seen it. Honestly, I'm kinda dumbfounded, but it looks very cool." Pacifica said genuinely.
"They do that every year!" Gideon said. "But, well, I don't tend to dress up very often."
