Someone set up Dipper. And no, he didn't say that out of nowhere. Susan Jimenez, greatest reporter of town, randomly appeared at the exact time he and Wendy were going on a date, and Wendy just made the whole town think the two were on a date. Dipper made it clear that was not a date. If he found out that she and her father were behind this, honestly, he would not be surprised.
Now inside of the restaurant, they were served two dishes: Kung Pao chicken for Wendy, xiaolongbao for Dipper; by a waiter that Dipper didn't bother to remember the name. He knew it was Chinese — who was he kidding? Of course it was, this restaurant is a giant building of Chinese stereotype. The main colours were red and golden, the lanterns were the same as the ones from her show, but red instead. The restaurant was crowded; well, Falling Gravity is a city known for loving the new. He ate his dish and kept listening to Wendy (and trying not to look bored) talk about her, and she, herself, and her own stories.
"And after I said that, he jumped on the boat!" Wendy laughed after saying.
Dipper let out a fake laugh. "Yeah," he brought the chopsticks to his mouth and continued eating. After he swallowed, he kept biting the empty tip.
"Dipper, tonight's date was marvellous," Wendy said. "I can't wait for our next one."
His eyes went wide. "What? Next one?" he asked. "One, this is not a date. Two, I never even agreed to that—"
"Hm? What do I hear?" Wendy looked at her side. "Is that a chorus of children coming up to us?" she asked. Dipper raised an eyebrow and narrowed his eyes.
Three kids with the same hair colour as Wendy and coincidentally — or maybe not — wearing green outfits of different shades came in and stood in a line. The taller one coughed with a hand in front of his mouth. "Three, two, one," he moved his fingers.
"Dipper," the three sang. "Will you join Wendy to a boat drive, in the lake," they sang in a higher note. "Next week, at the fire—work show?"
As they finished singing, Wendy handed Dipper a letter. Dipper read it, unbelieving what was going on right now. He took a deep breath and put the letter on the table. This had to stop, and it would, right there and then. "Wendy," he said. "My answer is—"
"Would you look at that?" Susan said, approaching their table. "We came back right on time! They're about to plan another date!" she turned to the cameraman. "Did you catch the chorus?" she asked. The cameraman nod. "Fantastic!" she turned back to Dipper and Wendy. "Now we just have to see the answer!"
"Wha— I didn't—"
"Awe, isn't that adorable?" a woman asked.
"Dipper has a girlfriend!" a man, the woman's husband, said.
"This is," a man, Toby Cutebiker, wiped the tear off his face. "So beautiful," he said. "The couple of the year!"
"If he says no, I'll be very sad." an elder lady said.
"I say he should decide by himself," another man said. "But he'll say yes, he and Wendy are perfect for each other! Both amazing, pretty, famous, what's there not to like? Wendy surely caught a good guy,"
"Wendy's a lucky girl," the same elder lady said.
The crowd of people surrounded their table. Dipper put both his hands on his hair and gripped them on it. His breath was unsteady, his legs started to tremble. It's been too long since he felt so anxious, he hated when he had an opinion, and everyone around him — with no exception — was not just disagreeing, but trying to force him to change his mind. He grit his teeth tight and his eye twitched as the voices around him got louder and louder.
