Chapter 38 - The (not) date

"So the only thing left to do is to pour the blood in. You think you can do that?" Renjun explained before walking over to the fridge and pulling out a bag of blood.

Mari furrowed her eyebrows at the text on the bag, seeing 'blood type O' written on it. The boy patiently waited for her reply before she moved her hand towards him, taking the bag from him.

"Do you have any preference when it comes to blood types? When I say you, I mean as in vampires overall." She asked as she looked for the bag opening.

"Ah, it depends, really. When making drinks here, especially with alcohol, we use O+ because it's the most common blood type and it's the easiest to obtain. But everyone has a different taste so it all depends on the person."

Mari looked at the boy explaining as he took a glass from the cupboard and motioned for her to give him the blood. The girl pushed the bag towards him before he took it in his hands and opened it at the bottom.

"You've got to pour a bit of it in the glass because it's easier to pour the measure from the glass rather than the bag. Whatever is left in the glass goes into the fridge and must be used in the same day." He spoke as he poured the red liquid into the glass before him.

Mari felt her stomach churning as she watched the thick liquid slowly slide down the glass, quickly turning away from the sight.

Renjun saw her action from the corner of his eye, lifting the bag before closing it and pushing it back inside the fridge.

Pushing the glass filled with blood from the girl's sight, he slowly put a hand on the girl's shoulder. "You okay?"

He watched the girl slowly take a breathe in, her hand over her mouth to prevent her from throwing up. "You can go to the bathroom if you aren't feeling well."

Mari slowly shook her head, walking over to the stool nearest to her. "I just need a moment." She mumbled and the boy nodded in understanding, following after her in case she was to lose consciousness and fall.

"It's funny how I am a literal werewolf and I've seen so much blood during hunts and everything, but I still find it so.." She stopped her sentence, lacking a word she could use to explain her emotion.

"Disgusting? Weird?" Renjun offered a few words she might've wanted to use but she just shook her head. "No, no, it's more like- like.. heartbreaking? No, that's not the word.." She furrowed her eyebrows as she thought.

The boy sat on the chair next to hers, leaning onto the bar. "Mari," At the mention of her name she looked at the boy, a reassuring smile stood on his lips as he pulled her hand into his.

"You don't have to explain yourself to me. You aren't feeling well around blood? That's alright, I won't pressure you into working with it."

Mari looked at him with glistening eyes, a small smile making its way onto her face as she listened to his words.

She felt as if he was the only person who cared about her feelings and her well-being. She felt like he was the only person she could be vulnerable around.
