I didn't recognize that voice. It didn't sound familiar. I almost had a Latino accent. Just a hint of one. Faith noticed it, too, and she jumped up, looking for the voice. If this were a prank, I would be pissed. I kept looking around, but I couldn't see anything. The lights were dimmed, and there were plenty of places to hide in the shadows.

"Addison Williams," he said, stepping out of the shadows long enough for him to come face to face with Faith. A male is about fifty, clean-shaven with blue-green eyes. It has a somewhat chiseled, mature structure. He looked like Derek but much older.

"Who are you," I ask. He looks at Faith, who is still standing before him, growling. He throws his hands up and points down to her. I whistle to her, and she backs away. Not much, just a few feet. He doesn't move, but he doesn't have to. I could see him perfectly.

"I came with a message, but seeing you up close was a bonus," he said. Who was this guy? And why was he-

"Damien?" I ask. He chuckles.

"Bright young lady, I can see why Derek loves you; give him a message for me," he said. I throw my hands out to the side for him to tell me. He points to Faith again. I call her to me; she stands beside me but still in a ready-to-pounce stance.

"What's the message, and how did you get in?" I ask. He sighs and moves to the side. I can't see what he's doing to his side, but I know it's not good.

"It wasn't hard; I could have come in at any time, but I wanted to wait, play it out, see how scared he was; if he wanted to kill me, he would have done it by now," he says. I cross my arms.

"You're baiting him," I said. He was. He was playing a game with him. I'm trying to see which Sanchez will cave first. Which one will shoot first?

"Smart girl, yes I am, but I'm also baiting his low-life mother," he said. I roll my eyes. I had yet to meet her. But something told me she didn't like his smugness either.

"Wow, what I trip; I would be careful if I were you; if someone catches you in here, you'll be locked up, like your friend," I said. He didn't like that. His nostrils flare.

"You think Lee is worse? Wait until the real leader shows up; Lee would have shown Mercy to you if you hadn't brought my idiot son in; the ring leader would shoot first," he says. Was he saying there was someone worse than Lee? Someone who would have killed me and Derek quicker than Lee tried.

"My message is this: he can't beat himself; he wanted to be different than me; he needs to be careful. One slip up, I could slip in through the night, and no one would know; his mother turned me against her and him against me; Lee wasn't the true king; tell him he's looking in the wrong place," he said before he stopped. And he slides closer, Faith growling again. He doesn't move, though. Was he not afraid of her?

"What happened to you? Derek had so many good memories-"

"Love destroyed me. I was never the same after his mother left, but it started before that. Derek isn't so different from me; I'm started just the way he's started," he said. I noticed him holding something in his hand. It looked like a shiny mirror or watch. But when I looked closer, I could see it. He was holding a small pocket knife. I gulped, afraid he would do something to Faith or me, but he didn't. He lays the knife on the table beside me.

"Tell him I'll see him again soon."

With that, he disappeared near the back wall. There was a secret hatch behind one of the bookcases. There had to be. Who hides in a library to sneak out the front? Faith looks at me. I wipe a stray tear. No one could know about this. No one. Not even Derek. I had to hide the knife. I had to keep it a secret. I had to talk to him. I needed to say something, anything. Even if it was to say I loved him.
