Adrian and I look around, Derek is standing at the door, arms crossed, leaning against the door frame. He doesn't look at me but keeps his eyes on Adrian. I could see the fear in his eyes. He knew he had been caught in a secret that he should have told me about. Why keep this place a secret anyway? It was a room. What would be the need to keep this a secret and lie about it?

"Why keep it a secret Derek," He asks, walking over to Derek. But Derek takes a deep breath and meets him halfway.

"I didn't think it was necessary to let anyone know about it, especially since it has no windows and one exit, plus, the door kept getting jammed, we fixed it but I just didn't want that happening again, if anyone had gotten stuck in here, I would hate to feel responsible for that," He said. But it was as if he was deflecting the truth. Adrian noticed too.

"I call Bullshit Derek, the door is one thing, and it was fixed, but not using it out of fear, unlikely for you," He says. Derek looks away, trying to deflect what Adrian said. I knew Derek was lying. So what would have been the reason?

"Fine, but you have to swear never to speak of this, ever," Derek says. We both nod. He takes a breath, almost afraid to tell us the real reason behind it.

"When you came the wall was painted a different color, you might have noticed, for a reason," Derek started, "Right after you left I moved into the other master upstairs, one night I came down here, and I shut the door, you may notice there are no locks on the door, didn't need them, so I shut the door behind me and it gets stuck, to get out I had to take the secret staircase behind the bookshelf." He walks over to the bookcase. And slides it over, and sure enough there is a door there behind it, locked.

"I walk down a few stairs before I hear what sounds like Wes getting into a heated argument with Dani on the phone. Both of them talking about how I needed help and that I needed to sober up, but what made it worse was, that Wes wasn't alone, at that time, Lee was training us, and Wes had been talking with him in that secret room down there, there are two ways in here, and under the lab, which is closed in now," Derek said.

"Well, then why did you keep this a secret? I mean Wes knew about the secret room downstairs," I asked. He looked at me, sorrow in his eyes.

"Because, that night was the first night I had ever fought with Wes, physically. I was a drunken mess and angry, I couldn't hold my temper, so out of blind rage, I attacked Wes, but then Lee knocked me out, and I woke up in my room upstairs, I almost killed Wes because I was drunk and confused, but I never drank another drop after, and I locked this room up so no one could go in and I boarded the other door, no more secret meetings down there, or escapes, should someone find out about it."

"Wow, I can see now why you keep it a secret, Wes is like a brother, and knowing you could have killed him, that had to be hard for you, but Rosa deserves a room so beautiful and big, secret room or not, should the door ever get stuck I will never leave her in here," Adrian says. Derek nods.

"I know, and I'm sorry about keeping it from you," He says looking at me. Well, at least that lie was fixed, but what about the others? Is that all he knows how to do, is lie?

"Listen, cousin, Rosa deserves a private room, with no one to stare at her, or make her feel uncomfortable, should anyone want to come see her, they would have to come through me," Adrian says. Derek nods to Adrian before agreeing to let me stay here. Was it strange that I wanted to explore the meeting room down in the secret room? It had me wondering what it looked like.

"Well, everyone is getting prepared for dinner, maybe you both should get ready and head up to the main dining hall," Derek says, looking between us. We nod looking at each other.
