I woke up wet through with sweat. The rational side of me had pulled me from my dream.
I couldn't believe how close I came to giving into him. What the hell was wrong with me.
I couldn't help it, I was attracted to him in ways I didn't even know I could be. Everything I thought I had been free from when the bond broke was still there, just below the surface. Maybe it had never been the bond at all, maybe that's just how you feel about someone when you have been dreaming about them for over a decade.
He was willing to help us find Sam for a kiss. I couldn't do that to Crowley again.
It was still the middle of the night, but I was terrified to go back to sleep. I didn't trust Lucifer and I didn't trust myself. My head was reeling at the realisation that I still wanted him, after everything, part of me yearned for him. Maybe because I had been lying to myself that things between me and Crowley were good. We were just going through the motions, it wasn't as passionate and exciting as the first couple of weeks. It was starting to feel more like a holiday romance.....and I hated that.
I climbed out of bed and jumped in the shower. Trying to wash away the sweat, memories and feelings that were consuming me.
I was under the water that long that it began to run cold. That brought me back to my senses as I grabbed a towel and headed back to my room.
I needed air.
I pulled on some clothes and headed out into the night.
Big mistake.
With everything else going on, I forgot that I was a hunter and it was common knowledge that I was dating the king of hell.
Shit.
I suddenly got the sense I was being followed. In my rush to clear my thoughts, I'd left my phone in the apartment.
I glanced back and could see a couple of men in hoodies tailing me.
I picked up my pace and started to head back in the direction of home.
I could hear their footsteps, they were gaining on me. I turned a corner and was met by two more men, their eyes, black as the night. I turned to run but they had me surrounded now.
"What do we have here" One of them spoke, "It was a mistake for you to come out alone and unarmed little girl"
"Got to hell" I yelled
"Oh we intend to" another laughed "We can tell you boyfriend we have his little plaything" a lot of demons didn't like Crowley and were planning to over throw him. These must have been some of them.
"You won't get away with this" I hissed as two of them restrained me.
"We already have" they said, shoving a bag over my head and knocking me out.
When I came round, I was aware that the bag was still over my head, my arms chained above my head, I was almost suspended, my tiptoes just touching the floor, allowing me little relief from the cold metal cutting into my wrists.
I stayed as still as possible, not wanting them to know I was awake. I could hear footsteps and whispers.
I heard a door slam, the whispers stopped,
"Where's Crowley?" a voice I recognised as one of my captors spoke.
"He's busy" they replied "he sent me to see what this was all about"
"Too busy to save his love?" my captors asked, there was no response, one of the men rushed over to me and pulled the bag off my head, I squinted at the spotlight pointing at me. "Oh look at that she's awake. I could see the demon Crowley sent, I recognised him as one of his henchmen.
"Grace" he gasped
"I suggest you run and tell your boss that he needs to get down here himself" they told him, he just nodded and ran from the room.
Looking around I was surrounded by cold concrete walls and dusty benches, it looked like an old workshop.
Hours passed and no sign of Crowley, I hoped he was hatching some plan to get me out. The demons must have thought so too because their numbers grew.
Just as I was beginning to lose hope, Crowley burst through the doors followed by a dozen men, I hoped he had reinforcements outside because he was drastically outmanned. His eyes met mine but only for a second, I guessed he couldn't show weakness.
"You better let her go or the wrath of hell with rain down on you" He snarled,
"Hand over the keys to the kingdom and she's all yours" they retorted, Crowley laughed, it was a cold emotionless laugh that I'd never heard before.
"You think I'm just going to roll over because you've got a human I've gone soft on" He chuckled, those words stung 'a human'.
"You'd rather lose the woman you love than step down as king?" another demon asked
"I don't have a soul" Crowley snapped "I'm incapable of love. You are not taking my thrown" tears began streaming down my cheeks, "I was hoping you would see sense" he continued "But I see we will just have to take her by force"
"You can try" a female voice spoke, that was new. From the shadows stepped a blonde....
"Ruby" Crowley exclaimed, but stopped whatever else he was going to say as his eyes fell to her hand, The metal shone in the low light, the demon blade. She let out a war cry and the demons ran at one another. I tried to keep my eyes on Crowley but it was difficult, bodies were being thrown all over the place.
I had lost track of him for a few minutes but suddenly he was in front of me.
"My love" he whispered "What have you gotten yourself into" he began struggling with the chains but pulled away quickly in pain, his hands smoked as his skin burned, the chains were warded, he couldn't touch them. He looked down at his burnt hands and back at me, before reaching again for the chains, deciding the pain was worth rescuing me.
"Crowley look out" I yelled as Ruby lunged toward him with the demon knife. He quickly manoeuvred out of the way. She had lost the element of surprise,
"Give it up Crowley" she hissed "We gave you the chance to run off into the sunset with your girl, you decided she wasn't worth giving up the crown for" He didn't say anything. "So now I have to kill you"
"Hell won't follow you" he laughed "They're loyal to me"
"One way to find out" she smirked and ran at him again with the knife, he didn't even look at me before he evaporated out of there. He left me. He chose hell over me.
