"Every day people do everyday things,
but I can't be one of them."
-Tove LoPast
I haven't seen Alex since the day I ran into him at the mall. But we have been texting every day since. He also calls me-without fail-every night.
I'm only fifteen years old and in total I've only had two boyfriends and kissed only three. But I will say this, not one of those boys have made me feel even an inch of what Alex makes me feel and he's not even anything to me. We don't see each other. Just talk.
But the butterflies I get when I wake up to see a text from him or when I see his name pop up on my screen, it's all straight out if a movie. I'm crushing hard.
"I cannot believe you gave him your number." Nicole says to me for like the hundredth time since I told her.
Nicole is my best friend and I love her to death but she can definitely be such a prude. It's super annoying.
Laying on my stomach with my legs up, I roll my eyes at her comment as I send a text back to Alex. "Nic, how many more time are you going to tell me that?" I sigh.
Pacing back and forth in my room, she stops to glare at me. "Dee, those guys are thugs. Did you not see all of their tattoos?"
"Yes." I sigh again.
"Their bad influence. Think about it, what good will come from hanging out with them?" She asks, kneeling down in front of me.
Her question does make me actually stop to think. I'm not dumb. I know for a fact that Alex and his friends are thugs, probably associate with drugs, skip school and God knows what else. But I'm also not even one hundred percent sure of any of that. I want to get to know him before I just brush him off.
Plus he's literally the only interesting guy I've ever met before. Nothing about him is boring.
"That's why I'm getting to know him, Nic." I simply say, returning my attention to my phone.
Nicole groans in frustration, standing back up to pace around my room.
It's Friday night and our parents are out at some event. Which means they'll be drained coming home super late. Which is why we're having a sleepover at my house.
Another text comes in.
Alex: Let's hang out.
My stomach tightens and the butterflies take flight.
Like a child, I squeal, standing up on my bed, and begin to jump and dance on it. Very mature Daisy.
"He wants to hang out!" I squeal with excitement. And Nic's eyes widen but I refuse to let her sourpuss mood ruin my happy mood. "Let's go out with them." I suggest, sitting down on my bed.
Now her eyes widen even more in horror. "Are you out of your mind?? We can't go out with criminals!"
I roll my eyes. "Dude you sound like a grandma!"
That clearly offends her because her jaw drops. "Wow, Daisy, thanks for that."
But I'm not gonna lie, she really does. Like it's not that deep. Yes, I get that girls get raped or kidnapped out here but technically he could've done something to me if he wanted to the other time and he never did. Also it's probably more likely for one of the jackasses from our school to try and pull a stunt like that.
"I'm sorry." I sigh, reaching out for her hands. "You're just being a buzz kill and super judgmental right now."
Nicole sighs. "I'm not trying to be. They just make me nervous, okay? They're so different from us."
I giggle. "I know but I feel like that's a good thing."
"Where would we even go?" She asks.
Another good question. It's pretty late already. But I do know a few places that we could hang out at that are public.
Grabbing my phone again, I respond back.
Me: But it's late. Plus remember that my friend is staying the night with me.
Alex: My friend is with me too.
Alex: And we don't have to go anywhere. We can just hang outside your house if you want?Me: What friend?
Alex: Miguel
I show Nicole the texts and she gives me a concerned look. "I don't know Dee." She groans.
"Well, will you be mad if I go outside with them for a bit then?" I try to compromise. "You'll be fine up here."
"But I don't wanna leave you by yourself."
Once again, I giggle. "Admit it." I say playfully. "You want to hang out with them. You want to be a little rebel and do something you've never done before."
Trying not to smile, she shakes her head. "No. Not all all Daisy Flowers!"
"The lies!" Like a cat, I pounce on her and begin to tickle her. "Admit it crazy woman!" I shout as she laughs uncontrollably.
Finally she admits defeat. "Fine, you win!" She shouts, still laughing. "But just for a little while."
I nod once. "Promise."
With that I send Alex my address and we both get up to get ready. We've been in our pajamas for a while now and there's no way we are going out like this.
Isn't funny how your life can change so suddenly?
A month ago I never would've thought I'd be sneaking out of my house with my best friend to go meet some guys me met at the mall.
Then again, a month ago there was absolutely nothing interesting happening in my life either.
