"If it's okay with everyone, I'd like to read," Lily states causing people to look at her shocked since she recovered so well from the last chapter. She doesn't wait for an answer and summons the book toward her, propping it on her lap casually as she flips to the chapter. "Dobby's Reward." She reads causing heads to turn and Lucius Malfoy to pale slightly in his seat, Narcissa noticing this narrows her eyes, praying her husband wasn't a complete idiot.
"Finally we're reading about the real star." Cordelia jokes with a grin, feeling slightly better now that she wasn't theoretically on death's door.
"You're calling my old house elf the star?" Draco questions puzzled, glancing at his cousin as if she was an oddball, which she was; to an extent.
"You'll see." Cordelia smirks, causing him to eternally groan. He might not have always been friendly to Cordelia but he knew that the smirk on her face often came with trouble or someone getting knocked down a few pegs.
"Oh Pup, you're gonna give me grey hairs, not even Azkaban accomplished that." Sirius jokes, hand over his heart causing Cordelia to narrow her eyes in on his hairline with a smirk.
"Are you sure Uncle Siri, I think I see a couple of them?" She jokes causing Sirius to fall into panic, conjuring a mirror and starting to check his hair in it.
"Sirius love, she was just kidding, there are no greys." Remus puts the mirror down and takes Sirius' hand to assure him.
"If you three don't mind." Lily jokes, narrowing her eyes at the family. They all give her apologetic glances and then Lily clears her throat, beginning to read.
For.... it?"
"Again Cordelia, thank you for saving our little girl." Arthur thanks the girl who just shrugs him off with a kind smile.
"It was nothing Mr.Weasley, Ginny's like a sister to me." Cordelia smiles at Ginny who gives her a thankful look and Cordelia sighs in relief, taking most of the attention off herself. Lily was gripping the book slightly harder than she needed to, upset at how much her daughter was failed by the school.
"I...Potter-Black?"
"I have a feeling that even if she tells you the truth, back then you wouldn't believe her." James comments on Professor McGonagall and Professor Dumbledore.
"To be fair it does sound a little far-fetched."Cordelia starts to defend but a shake of the head from James causes her to stop her train of thought. "Right, stop defending them." She mutters to herself, grabbing Blaise's hand.
"James I'm sorry that we failed her but do you think it's fair to bring it up every time that you see something you might not like?" Professor McGonagall tries to lecture her godson, giving her a stern look.
"No Minnie, I think that as Professors you should've at least known where they were or at least had the sense to check on them, especially since you had gone to school with Tom Riddle, You and Mama graduated a year or two before him!" James protests, getting annoyed with his godmother. "Cordelia has had to save this school from the danger that was one brought into it and two not checked out properly, and I bet there's more as we continue reading." James throws an arm over Lily. "Perhaps bringing it up will keep it from happening again." He finishes.
Cordelia hesitated told them a watered down version of the events, not mentioning that the Basilisk was alive or that she got bit since she didn't want to spend the night in the hospital wing. She mentions the sword and then as she gets to the diary, she hesitates and looks at Ginny, before telling about Tom Riddle's hold on Ginny. She...spectacles.
