Dancing With The Dead

"Alright, see you later"

"Alright" Claire said to Sarah's visitor as she stepped out of her office. She waited for her to leave before she pulled out Amanda Todd's autopsy report then set it on her table. A strong sense of uneasiness bubbled from within her as her eyes traced the cover of the file.

She had tried to go through it the previous night, but unfortunately was to exhausted and promised herself to do it in the morning.

But then her morning got packed, and so she shifted it to her lunch break.

It was now her lunch break.

Recalling what Roberto had said, Claire knew she had to engross herself with all the needed details before night time to at least get a better understanding of what the report was saying and to see if anything was actually fishy.

"If I'm going to examine the body though, what's the point of all this?" Claire grumbled before she shut her eyes close and inhaled deeply.

"It's either you do what the grumpy man says, or you die, Claire. Don't think too much into it" She stared at the file for a brief second then flipped it open. The first page was painted with details of the deceased and details surrounding her death.

"Just like the news, she had her wrist slit open" Claire muttered to herself then flipped to the next page which had pictures of Amanda's dead body pinned to it.

Her stomach churned as her eyes glanced quickly from picture to picture.

Claire's pupils continued to dance around the file until they landed on a picture which inched closer to the cuts on Amanda's wrist. She peered closer to it with an arched eyebrow.

"Nothing looks out of place from what I'm seeing, though" She muttered then flipped to the next page. As she continued to study it, her office door swung open and like whiplash, Claire quickly tossed the autopsy report aside which made Miranda pause halfway through the door with an arched eyebrow.

"What was that?"

Claire arched an eyebrow innocently.
"What was what?"

"That thing you just tossed aside?"
Claire looked down at the report then Miranda and shrugged.

"I.don't know what you're taking about"

Miranda's eyes remained on Claire for a short while before she shook her head and continued.

"Anyways, me and Gregory were headed out to get some lunch, wanted to know if you were interested in tagging along"

Claire looked down at the report then back at Miranda.

"I'm kinda busy at the moment"

"Is it something for Sarah? She wouldn't mind if you went to get lunch, you know?"

"It's actually something personal and It's really important"

Miranda arched an eyebrow "How important?"

"Like really, really important" Claire said and they both stared at each other, silent. They continued to gawk at themselves for a while before Miranda shrugged with a sigh.

"Well, if it's that important, then I'll leave you to it"

Claire nodded with a smile
"Thanks"

"Sure" Miranda said then turned around. As she stepped halfway through she paused and darted back at Claire "Want us to get you anything?"

Claire shook her head "I'm good, thanks"

Miranda nodded then walked out of the office. Claire could hear Miranda shout to Gregory that Claire wasn't interested which made her sigh in relief.
