Claire tugged the sports bag on her shoulder while she strolled into Terry's gym.
The night before Claire left her office, she informed her boss that she'd like to stop by the gym before she arrived at work. It was some sort of tradition of hers back when she was a detective to ensure she stayed fit. It was only fair to continue since she was back out.
Her bosses response:
"As long as you arrive to work during the designated time, then sure"
Similar to every other time Claire would walk into the gym, it was packed with different people trying to accomplish different things.
The weightlifters were at their own end doing their thing, the fighters, the cardio trainees, the calisthenic freaks, all were glued to their various spots. Claire grinned as she admired a few of them and continued to stroll further inside.
"Oh my God, Claire?" Claire turned and smiled as her eyes met Lorie's
"Lorie" She said before she headed towards the small registrar area. Lorie grinned brightly as Claire inched closer.
"Hey you, It's been so freaking long. Where the hell have you been?"
"Jail" Claire said with a smile which made Lorie burst into a fit of laughter. Claire arched an eyebrow as she watched Lorie regain her composure.
"Seriously though, where have you been?"
Claire arched an eyebrow with a deadpan expression "Jail"
Lorie was about to smile but her smile faded as she noticed Claire's neutral expression
"Wait, you're serious?" Claire chuckled "How did I not know this?"
"You tell me. Terry knew. Why didn't he tell you?"
She frowned "You know Terry doesn't tell me anything"
Claire laughed and nodded in agreement "True"
"How long were you in there? Because, I haven't seen you in ages"
"Five years"
Lorie's pupils dilated "Damn, at least you're out now"
"Yup. Well, I better hurry, gotta make sure I catch up with work" Claire said then began to walk away.
"Cool, cool. Hey?" Claire turned "What did you do, anyway?"
Claire shrugged "That's a can of worms I'm unwilling to open today"
Lorie nodded in understanding as Claire headed for the section designated for fighters.
Once she reached, she wrapped her hands in tape then scanned the room for any familiar faces, unfortunately, she found none.
After, she pulled her phone out then set a timer. Her intention was to follow the same routine she had always followed for her shadowboxing. Six rounds, with each round lasting around five minutes. After she set the timer, she placed herself in a fighting stance then began to crash her fist into the punching bag.
After thirty minutes had elapsed, Claire got herself hydrated and moved to the weightlifting section. Doing deadlifts, bicep curls, and lightweight lifting for her chest. After that was done, she did a couple set of push-ups and once that was over, her workout routine was finished.
She dabbed her face gently with the towel that hung over her shoulder while she breathed harshly. She peeped at her phone's screen then nodded at the time.
She had twenty minutes left to spare.
She could still make it in time for work.
She took a swig from her water then began to scan the room for something else she could add to her routine, and as she did her eyes landed on someone which made her smile.
