The hall the trio were seated in began to fill up slowly, each person who took up an open seat looked more expensive and powerful than the last. Claire's eyes glued to a couple of people she had done some dirty jobs for in Adkins name, along with some she did dirty to. Funny how they all sat together clueless at the face of their enemy.
Claire chuckled at the thought.
"Life sure is something"Daniel turned to her with an arched eyebrow.
"What?""I laundered money from most of the people here to give to Adkins" Claire whispered to Daniel "Amongst other things"
"Funny" Was all he said with a smile before he sank back into his seat. The lights of the room began to slowly dim with each passing second. Once the room got completely cloaked in darkness, a giant spotlight shone on the stage and a man climbed on top, a small smile on his face.
"My father usually said; "Death is but the start of our real journey's" He was a very spiritual man, and also quite resourceful" The man paused in thought then sighed "Death is an undeniable scourge we all hope and pray to get rid off from this world..."
"Hey" Claire whispered to Daniel "Do you think now's a great time to get out of here?"
"Wait for Adkins's presentation. I'm pretty sure everyone would be in here by then" Daniel said still giving some of his attention to the man who spoke. Claire turned around and found that some of the chairs behind her were still unoccupied and groaned in irritation before she sunk back into her seat.
"...So, to not waste anymore of your precious time. I'd like to bring to the stage, Mr Benson Adkins" The man said and the crowd clapped lowly for him. Adkins waved at the crowd with a small smile on his face and bounced onto the stage. He shook the man who had spoke from before then took the microphone off of his hand"
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen" He said with a bright smile.
"Well, that was unexpected" Daniel said then turned to look behind him. Claire followed suite and their eyes still found a couple of unoccupied chairs.
"You said..."
"I know what I said" Daniel said as they both turned back to Adkins "I thought he'd take longer to arrive for his speech"
"Well, he didn't"
"Must be in a hurry to attend to something" Daniel exhaled tiredly.
"So, now what?"
Daniel looked down to his watch then sighed.
"Well, you're gonna have to take a huge risk here. Cause, Adkins is someone who follows time"Claire nodded knowingly "True"
"Which means we only have nineteen minutes left till everyone is haul assing out of here"
"So, I need to go?"
He nodded "You need to go"
"Alright" Claire said and prompted to stand up before she was stopped by Daniel.
"Be careful, okay? Don't make any unreasonable moves"
Claire nodded and got out of her chair.
"And, communicate with text" Daniel whispered then gestured to his phone as she walked away to which she responded with a thumbs up. As she headed for the entrance, she paused and watched as people in great numbers walked in. She smiled, seeing it as the perfect opportunity to slip out without blowing her cover.
She dashed to the crowd, pressing her body through the many others who walked her opposite direction.
As she snaked her way out of the crowd, she made sure to cover her face until she was out of the hall. Once she got out, her eyes danced around and found people still scattered, drinking and conversing amongst themselves.
