A New Flame (Sanemi x Deaf Reader)

Chapter 18

-3rd Person POV-
“(Y/n) seemed to complete all of the rehabilitation training on her first go around. I didn’t think she would be so fast.” Aoi laughed as she talked to Kanao during their break.

Kanao then flipped the coin as if spun in the air a few dozen times. It finally came down and it flipped on tails. “Doesn’t she get to join us now?” Kanao responded, not saying anything else.

“Yes she does. It has been so great seeing a hashira train with us, it is such an honor.” Aoi fangirled to herself as she rounded up the boys again so they can recover faster.

Aoi seemed to already write something on the clipboard as she handed it to (Y/n) with a smile before yelling at Zenitsu for being a creep to the girls. It said, “Whenever Tanjiro is able to beat Kanao at the reflex game or the whole body training you will step in as the ‘final boss’ I guess we can say.”

The writing was in a pretty elegant cursive kanji which was quite different from the Insect Pillar’s perfect print handwriting. Out of everyone in the Rengoku family, (Y/n) was the only girl in a few dozen years, almost two centuries.

(Y/n) had been said to have perfect elegant kanji as when she was younger her father had her study with the best teachers, teaching her almost anything that could help her in the future, but nothing to help her become a demon slayer.

But (Y/n) did learn some direction, star alignments, and wind directions which did help on some missions.

(Y/n) gave a thumbs up as she sat down sitting on her knees along the wall watching with a blank stare that could scare anybody off if they just met her for the first time. Her stare seems to be just as chilling as a fox stalking and shifting toward a bunny with her jagged eye movements.

But Aoi just knows her to be observant in the few hours she known her.

-(Y/n)’s POV-
After Tanjiro seemed to be winning, he reached for a cup just for it to be shut down by Kanao. After a minute or so of some failed offense attempts, Tanjiro managed to grab the cup Kanao was going for and placed the cup on her head.

‘I didn’t think-’ Casually looks at the clipboard to see the name of the boy.  ‘Tanjiro… would just set the cup on top of her head. I thought he would have just poured the water onto her.’

To say I was impressed as it takes more time to kneel forward to do that anyway. I looked over to Kanao to see her walking to me and just stood there. I stand up as Tanjiro runs towards us.

I hand him the clipboard as I saw him flip the page. After a few seconds he hands it back asking if we could start with the full body reflex training first. I of course respond with a thumbs up.

After a few minutes of the three girls moving stuff around the room to clear the area, Aoi comes up to me and gives me directions about me being the tagger first and then we will switch roles.

Not exactly sure when to start, Tanjiro starts running around the room. ‘I’m not exactly sure if I should go easy on him…’ I thought to myself as I easily passed over his head as he ducked, surprising me a bit.

‘Wasn’t expecting that.’ I thought, getting more interested in the boy's potential. I then took off with one foot again and appeared in front of Tanjiro, surprising him, causing him to run into me.

Just to be funny, I grabbed him by his ankle lifting him off the hardwood floor. I then grinned widely as I flipped him on his feet and bowed thanking him for his time and ‘battle.’

-3rd Person POV-
“Man she’s a monster!” Zenitsu yelled as he watched how quickly (Y/n) caught up to Tanjiro. They two ran passed to bystanders making Zenitsu yelp clinging onto Aoi just to get punched, so he clung behind Inosuke.

Aoi seemed to write something down on the clipboard before turning to Kanao. “I didn’t think she would be that fast, but she is also a Hashira like Shinobu-san.” The three girls look up to Aoi and Kanao before bringing up something that could be true.

“It looks like she’s toying with him.” The three say in verses, each having a few words. “Wow!” Was all Tanjiro yelled to get their attention. “Wah! She’s gonna drop him!” Zenitsu yelled, flipping around on the floor as Inosuke is in wow.

“I can do that too!” Inosuke yelled as he ran over to Tanjiro after he had just got set down. Inosuke grabbed Tanjiro’s ankle and lifted him up, but since the two boys are seemingly the same height, Tanjiro's face went straight to the floor, getting a few gasps from the girls and (Y/n).

(Y/n) immediately kneeled down to Tanjiro. *You okay?* She asked as she helped him up. Tanjiro grabbed his nose before letting go of it and gave a thumbs up. Aoi comes up to the duo laying the clipboard on the floor for me to see.

‘You ready to be chased, (Y/n)-san?’ Seeing this, (Y/n) smiled before extending her hand out to Tanjiro so she could pick him up. Signaling him that she is ready to go.
