A New Flame (Sanemi x Deaf Reader)

Chapter 55

(I think I am going to start with the training arc soon. :) )

-Sanemi’s POV-
‘(Y/n) is such a strong person.’ I thought as she continued to walk into the estate with no worries about anything. ‘I like walking behind her- Wait what the hell am I thinking!?’ I thought to myself, as my face turned slightly red from the embarrassment. I then walked up next to her to reset my mind.

She looked towards me not noticing that I was staring before she said something. *Is something on my face or you just looking at how hot I look?* I stopped walking for a second before walking passed her backwards. *Nah I’m too cool for you.* (Thank you I_Eat_Tables_ for this idea. I’ll change it if you want me to. “Missed the chance to say your too cool for him instead of cold 🥶”)

I looked at (Y/n)’s face before turning around asking myself why the hell I ‘said’ that. ‘What the hell was I thinking!’ I thought, grabbing my face with my left hand as my right hand was still on the guard of the katana. I almost ran into someone before sliding to the side as I continued walking. What I didn’t notice was that the person I passed was a very annoyed flame pillar.

She hit me in the back of the head multiple times as we entered the meeting room. “HEY! What the hell man!?” I yelled at first before calming down seeing it was (Y/n). “Ara ara~ Shinazugawa-san, you can’t just yell at a deaf girl, can we?” The bug says in her usual teasing voice she does to the water brat. (Tomioka)

I signed a quick *Sorry* behind my back toward (Y/n), as I scoff to the insect pillar for getting in my way of sitting down.

-Shinobu’s POV-
Shinazugawa scoffed at me as I thought that was quite disrespectful, but I guess I can’t do anything to help him in his useless attempt at a ‘love life.’ I snicker at the thought before walking over to (Y/n) as I didn’t notice that she had moved away toward some of the others. Uzui-san was over there.

‘I’m gonna go ahead and guess that they are gonna catch up on what happened during the mission.’ I thought before deciding to join them. “Hello y’all, how are you all doing this fine evening.” I said with my signature smile as I easily got a response from Uzui, yet (Y/n) seemed to have a little time understanding.

She then rotated her pointer fingers around the other making me a little confused. “Hm?” I hummed confused before Uzui said what she meant. “She saying, *repeat.*” He said, gaining both my attention and Tokito’s. The younger boy walked up next to us with a small sparkle in his eye. I smiled as I saw that.

“When did you start learning sign language?” Uzui simply stated that he didn’t, which confused us, but I let him finish. “Then how did you know what she ‘said’?” Tokito asked again, slightly tilting it to the side. Uzui then looked over to the boy and started to explain how he knew what she had said.

“(Y/n) had made a simple yet flashy notebook with simple signs that I and the other dweebs learned, or tried to learn, making it easier to communicate in battle. It helped a few times to not say our plans aloud for the demon. Mainly during the battle with the male upper moon.” Uzui stated before looking at (Y/n) questioning what she meant but again as he also did the same sign.

(Y/n) rotated her pointer fingers around the other again with an awkward smile before pointing to Shinobu. Wha- oh OH! She wants you to repeat what you said earlier.” Uzui said, getting what she meant as he held up a thumbs up. ‘Oh. How did I not guess that?’ I thought before repeating myself but slower.

“Hello y’all, how are you all doing.. this fine evening.” ‘Was that good?’ I thought before she gave me a thumbs up. I had shocked eyes before going back to normal.

-(Y/n)’s POV-
I was just standing next to Tengen as he smiled trying to make signs that didn’t make sense before I wrote down ‘No offense but those aren’t signs and they are confusing me.’ I handed it to him just to laugh. I looked up to him to see Kyojuro before seeing that it was Tengen again.

‘I guess I'm not fully over it yet…’ I thought before seeing Shinobu walk up to us. She said something fast, making me not understand as I had been trying at the butterfly mansion to learn lip reading and it has been going okay, buuuut they kinda have to speak slowly. Aoi didn’t really like that at first, but she thought it would help with my pronunciation, so she did.

Soon after, Shinobu repeated what she had said again causing me to focus. ‘Hello us.. no y’all.. how are we… doing.. evening.’ I thought for a second, trying to break down the words thinking of what she said. ‘Hello y’all… how are we doing this evening?’ I looked up finally understanding what she had said and gave a wide smile as well as a thumbs up.

-3rd Person POV-
“Okay is anyone going to mention that she looks like Rengoku..” Obanai and Mitsuri said at the same time but in different tones. Uzui was the first to speak up as he said, “I have! During our mission in fact. (Y/n) reminds me how much Rengoku used to be flamboyantly bright.”

Tokito then joined in saying, “Now all she needs is his hilt..” Causing all of us to go quiet. “Yeah.. Anyways, to get away from this subject. I think (Y/n)-san is trying to read lips, so if we are wanting to talk to her, we may want to talk slow, or if your Mr. Grumpy over there,  sign to her.” Kocho said, looking toward the pillars which weren’t with them. (Tomioka, Gyomei, Shinazugawa, and (Y/n) )

-(Y/n)’s POV-
I walked away smiling before sitting down behind Sanemi who just looked satisfied. ‘What the hell is that smug face for?’ I grumbled, not noticing the noise I had just made, but it seemed to catch Sanemi’s attention as he quickly turned around. *Did you make that sound?*

I gave him a confused look before shrugging. *Try doing it again.* Sanemi said, catching me off guard. *Wha- I don’t think I can.* I signed embarrassedly waving my hands afterwards. Sanemi gave me a ‘you serious right now’ look before I gave up. I then tried doing it before I ended up pushing air out my nose.

*Try humming?* He thought, giving me the idea. “h..mm..m” I looked up, noticing Sanemi was slightly smiling as his face relaxed. *What?* I grumbled again, now feeling a rumble in my throat. He gave me a cheeky grin as I noticed what I did. ‘What did that do?’ I thought, looking over to see that Uzui was also looking at me.

*What did I do…* I asked confused and slightly annoyed before getting over it as Sanemi answered. *You grumbled.* I looked at him amazed before realizing that is what people do when they are annoyed. ‘I heard of that word when I was reading.’ (😏) *Oh.* Was the only thing I had signed before he suddenly turned around to talk to the others as I noticed they were talking among themselves.

Sorry for the late update I was helping everybody and all my teachers moving desks and chairs as I was one of the only people in the school and classes that were there.

My construction teacher was also teaching me how to use a CNC router and was wanting to know if I wanted to help him graphic design some prints to put on wood panels.

I was just so ecstatic I had to help as that is what I want to go into in the future. (Construction)
