I explained everything to the girls.
They understood and didn't judge me for it and were rooting for me and David to work out. Even though I told Thiago I didn't have time to waste, I didn't want to rush things with David this time around.
There were a lot of things that we had to work through, personally and together. Even if we were going to be together romantically, I wanted to be someone he could rely on, someone he could trust.
David had another session with my mum later on today.
We still haven't properly spoken since he broke down and told me what had happened.
I don't know if he was embarrassed, he regret opening up to me or had a bruised ego but it was driving me crazy.
I was supposed to be studying but I couldn't concentrate.
I decided I was going to talk to him after she was done.
I took my book downstairs and lay on the sofa and began to read.
"Hi, Kendal."
"Hi, Mum." Not acknowledging David purposely.
David's head shot up immediately when he heard my voice. I still kept my head in my book, but I couldn't help by smile.
I snuck a few glances.
How could I not? He was topless, and the little noises he would make were cute.
I noticed him looking too but I made sure not to make any eye contact.
"So that's it for today David." I heard my mum say.
It could took all the power in me to not leap out off the sofa but I simply flipped the page.
"Thank you, Tia Anita." Tia? Since when did start calling my mum that?
Now that caused me to sit up.
"No problem, David. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve so have fun. We will continue in a week's time, I want to know if the treatments are helping you before we continue further."
"Sure, thank you." David put on his t-shirt, and just as stopped looking my eyes locked in with my mum's. My eyes shot up and I went back to reading my book.
"Kendal?"
"Yes." I looked up.
"What were the names of the Little Rock Nine kids?" She said in Twi.
"Huh?"
"Don't look at your book." I put my book down.
"Okay, um... Ernest Green, Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth Eckford, Thelma Mothershed, Melba Pattillo, Gloria Ray, Terrence Roberts, Jefferson Thomas, and Carlotta Walls?" She took the history textbook out of my hands and flipped the page for the answers.
"Hm, you're correct." She handed the textbook back to me.
"Why would I get that wrong?"
"Just making so you were paying attention to what you were reading."
"Are you serious?"
"Just making sure, you seemed distracted." I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
"Who are you rolling your eyes at young lady?"
"Sorry."
David stood there in confusion.
"What are you speaking? Sorry, if that came across as rude."
"Oh, it's my mum's native language. She speaks Twi, a dialect of the Akan language."
"Oh, it sounds cool."
