Monoma uncomfortably stepped back, trying to activate his quirk again. Killua just smirked and tilted his head.

"My, my. Your already backing away?"

Monoma tried to turn around and make a run for it, but Killua grabbed him by the wrist and deftly shifted his weight, throwing Monoma over and behind him. His back hit the ground with a sickening thump and rolled over on his side, holding his aching ribs.

"You can copy people's quirks, right?"

Monoma just stared up at him in disbelief. He never really openly stated that was his quirk.

"I read everyone's files from the school before I got in. There is a surprising amount of marks on your record. Did you know that?

He tried scooting further away from him but his back felt locked and it was still hard for him to breathe.

"I'm guessing you wanted to pick a topic that people would get very defensive of as a way to bully 1A into making a bad decision? It's very similar to your last offenses." Monoma just sat in silence as Killua effortlessly picked him and his plan apart. "There's also another student of interest... Shinzo I believe? You have been hanging around him lately although he seemed very uncomfortable. Perhaps you took and used his quirk to exploit others into bullying? How clever."

Killua felt bitter but strangely happy. For once, he wasn't the one who was exploiting others in some way. He was the one bringing it to light.

Gon jumped off his branch and grabbed Killua's arm, slightly pulling him away from the scared blond whimpering in the dirt.

"Alright, I think he's heard enough. We don't want to get in trouble again."

Again?

Killua sighed and nodded. Hopefully he had scared this kid enough that he would leave their class alone.

It didn't really bother him at first, but he started getting kissed when people would call them slurs in the hallways and shit.

As they weee walking away, Killua turned his head around to look at Monoma once again.

"By the way, I'm quirkless."

Monoma froze from his illiterate curses and looking up at Killua walking away with his hands nonchalantly behind his pouch, white hair.

Quirkless?

Wasn't he the strongest person in their class?

No wonder his quirk didn't work on him...

"Killua, that was a bit harsh, don't ya think?" Gon silently turned his head a bit to look at Killua.

He was completely silent.

Gon couldn't see his expression under his messy bangs, but he knew something wasn't quite right.

"Ki-"

"Hey Gon, let's go get some chocolates! Last one to the gate is a Hisoka kinnie!"

Killua took off.

"Hey! No fair!"

He ran after him and eventually caught up as the quickly raced through the green trail next to the main UA building.

"Hey Killua?"

Killua let out a small sound of acknowledgment.

"Are we.. ever going to go back home?"

Killua faltered on his step, trying to keep from eye contact.

"Dummy, of course we will! We're not stuck here!" It was a very forced cheerfulness.

Gon just shuddered.

"I left Alluka with Bisky but.." Gon paused and gulped knowing that he was traversing some deadly territory. "I don't think they can outrun your... brother for very long.."

Killua stopped running suddenly when Gon mentioned his brother and stood glaring at the ground.

Gon had to stop as well and step back a bit.

"What makes you say that?" Killua asked weakly with an expression of pain in his face. This was not his favorite topic.

"Killua... you know why."

Killua popped his head back at Gon with a knew found anger in his eyes.

"Why did you leave her?"

It was surprising to Gon.

"What?"

"I said," Killua was yelling now. "Why did you leave her?!"

Gon was taken aback and stepped a few feet away from him, feeling ugly washing over him.

"I-"

"You know what? Fuck you! Why did you come here anyway! Why are you here?!"

Gon didn't answer.

"WHY ARE YOI HERE?!"

Gon felt a few tears slip out of the corners of his eyes and roll down his cheeks. Why was he here? He could have protected Alluka for longer, couldn't he? He tried to stay with her, but not being with Killua was eating at him..

Why did he care so much about him?

Why?

He suddenly remembered something Aunt Mito had told him a very long time ago.

"Someone that you love, especially more than a friend, is someone you cannot bare to live without. They are beautiful I'm your eyes, even with all of their flaws. They are your best friend, even if it established that you might be something more. You'll find your soulmate one day, Gon, and you'll know."

... Why did he just remember that now?

He carefully glanced up at Killua's face and saw his angry and impatient expression etched on his eyebrows and lips.

Lips..

Gon forgot what they were talking about in the first place and couldn't rip his eyes away. Is this what Aunt Mito was talking about?

Gon knew it was shameful to think of his best friend in that way. He knew it.. but..

"Killua.." he spoke softly, blushing a bit. "I just couldn't live without you. I-"

Extreme cutoffs and cliffhangers are my favorite sport ☺️
