JENNIE POV
Lisa wasn't anywhere in that cave, I could tell, so I carefully let the sea water back in. Wherever that witch has taken her. I screamed out angrily into the nothingness.
"HOW DARE YOU TAKE MY LISA AWAY FROM ME! HOW FUCKING DARE YOU! I'LL BE COMING FOR YOU BITCH!"
For a while there was nothing. Just seagulls and waves and wind.
But then, a voice raised above it all. It seemed to come from the empty halls of the cave. It echoed from the stone walls. A shiver ran through me when hearing it.
"That is no way to talk to your mother Ruby Jane."
My chest constricted and I forgot to breathe for a good ten seconds. I felt my face pale. This was absolutely not true. It couldn't possibly be true. It was a joke. While Suga had said that Lisa was taken by a dark witch, not for a second have I thought about her.
The woman who went absolutely insane and scarred me for life. This was some magical entity playing with my emotions or something. It couldn't be her. Absolutely not.
"Ruby Jane." The witch name my coven gave me when I was born. Not the name my human father gave me. "She's not worth your pain. You are destined for things much greater. Become free of this nonsense. Become the most powerful witch the land has ever seen!"
"WHERE THE FUCK IS MY SOULMATE?" I screamed completely unhinged, anger bubbling to the surface like never before.
"The little fairy girl is with me. Don't you worry about her. I will let her go back to her friends if you leave them. Leave her! Go your own way and look for the power that is destined for you."
"I WANT HER BACK NOW, OR ELSE!"
There was soft but cold laughter. My mother's voice was so foreign to me after all these years of separation. Yet it was her and I was sure of it. She told me to let go of Lisa.
"Or else what, Ruby Jane?"
"OR YOU'LL EXPERIENCE MY POWER!" I threatened her emptily. I knew I had nothing on her. She was hundreds of years older and stronger than me. Plus she had her dark powers that I, except for this one little spell, had no intention of diving into. It was too hard to come back from.
My mother was the best example for that. Dark powers fed on dark emotions. And once a witch got in too deep, the magic did not let her back out. It changed her, killing everything affectionate that a human-like creature could feel. In a way it freed my mother from the heart-wretching pain of loosing my dad. But it was still not the way to cope.
Yet, I knew I'd fall into it just the same if Lisa died. I was just like my mother after all.
"Daughter." She adressed me again. This time trying to sound compromising. "I could have killed her right away. Snapped her pretty little neck like it was made of sticks. But you're my flesh and blood, so I'm giving you a choice. She lives if you leave."
"THAT IS NOT A CHOICE, IT'S FUCKING BLACKMAIL!!!"
"Witches aren't supposed to have soulmates. I was young and dumb and didn't listen to the elders but I can still save you. Leave her behind you. If you make your choice within twentyfour hours, I'll let her go. Otherwise her blood is on your hands."
