Unexpected surprise

The silence between the two of them was killing as they looked at each other. The couple of minutes felt like hours, tears fell from her eyes they both couldn't believe the news and needed to take it in. Not knowing what to feel thousands of emotions at the same time washed over him the only thing he knew was that he felt relieved it wasn't some kind of illnes and she was alright while she always thought she would feel over the moon and he would be delighted with the news but they had been caught so off guard it was unexpected.

"How?" He asked dumpfounded not knowing what to say as she wanted him to speak, he realy hadn't expected this even if he always thought there was a possibility the last time she cried he thought maybe there wasn't.

"You asking me?" he couldn't be serious could he asking how she got pregnant? Was that the first thing that came to his mind to ask? What had she expected of course he wasn't going to be happy about it, of course he said all those nice words and gave all that hope to have her by his side.. maybe he even used her to run away.

"I mean for how long?" This was the best he could say as he searched for words he couldn't find at the moment. She probably became recently pregnant otherwise they would have noticed sooner wouldn't they?

"The doctor said 3 months" she forgot her courses were almost 3 weeks late now, how could she? Then again it wasn't a wonder after getting married and moving to here, adjusting to a new life everyone would forget but she still couldn't let but feel guilty about it. She had been starving herself what if something happened? What if she harmed the child?

"You were pregnant all those time?" He hadn't expect this and certainly not her beeing 3 months far. He never thought the news would hit him so hard, he never thought how he would feel about it. But he felt more guilty..

Her hands were slightly shaking being in shock. He didn't know how to react he had been father once before but he couldn't remember there passed 15 terrible years after that the only thing he could remember was the times he had Johanna in his arms and months after that so many beautiful memories was replaced with awful events of torture and pain. He didn't know how to be a good father. When he promised her he never thought what it would be like. He swallowed and looked at her. "You bled.. when we were at the inn" maybe there was a mistake, maybe the bloody doctor was mistaken.

"The doctor said it's common in the first months apparently" she had to know, how could she not know she only bled once all this time and she normally never or rarely had cramps. He was clearly not happy about the news she could see it on his face and it was like he was looking for reasons to prove the opposite.

He massaged his forehead not knowing what to say to her. She wanted him to say something, to say he was happy so she could have a confirmation of this news that sended her in to shock. But much to her dissapointment there was no words coming from him about him being happy for this pregnancy. She wanted to cry loudy, screaming her guts out and slap him in the face for giving her so much hope. She knew all what he said all this time where empty words how did she believed him she must have learned until now that he was a big liar and a coward. How could she be such a fool?

Instead she took her shoes wanting to get out of the hospital as soon as possible as she started to put them on. He wanted to help so he took the other one "Leave it" she instructed him in a cold tone as she started to lace up her shoe. He didn't listen and started put her shoe on her left foot "I said leave it!" She snatched it out of his hand after tying her shoelaces.

He looked at her not understanding and taken aback by her cold and harsh tone. He let her do as she wanted not wanting to argue right now he knew she was as much in shock as he was, they needed time to give this a place.
