"Hunk, are you excited?" Lance asked for the tenth time that day, shaking his best friend's shoulder violently. Hunk laughed.
"Yes, Lance. For the millionth time...yes!" He promised. Lance smiled with glee.
"I'm telling you man, I have a good feeling! A GOOD feeling! Ms. Fran seemed to really like me!" Lance cheered.
"Well you're a good actor Lance!" Hunk promised. Lance beamed.
"You really think so Hunk?" He questioned. Hunk nodded.
"Of course!"
"Hunk and Lance, please quiet down!" There Chemistry teacher warned. Lance's eyes went wide.
"I'm sorry Mr. Jones! It won't happen again!" He promised. Mr. Jones smiled. Lance looked down, he hated being scolded by teachers.
"What a teacher's pet," Lance heard a boy whisper behind him.
"I known, geez he's so annoying!" Another boy commented. Lance frowned. He knew a lot of people hated him at this school. He tried his best to be friendly, but people just didn't like that he was a try hard. Lance liked to follow rules, and as the school president, that meant he had to make sure other students followed them too. That didn't really sit well with his classmates, and it had caused him to have trouble making friends. But that was fine with Lance, all he really needed were true ones who cared about him. Friends like Hunk.
Still, the comments he heard added up. Lance was always unsure of himself, he never felt good enough. Sometimes, he wondered if it would be better if he just didn't exist.
"Lance, don't let them get you down!" Hunk reassured. Lance smiled at him.
"Thanks Hunk," he said.
Both boys anxiously waited for class to end, thinking of one thing only...the cast list. Finally the end of school bell rang, and Lance scooped up his backpack, and slung it onto his shoulders.
"She said it would be posted on the theater door, right?" He asked. Hunk nodded.
"Right!" He replied. Lance squealed, and began shaking Hunk's arm again.
"Who do you think you'll get?" He asked as they walked. Hunk shrugged.
"I don't know, but I'm sure you'll get Romeo," Hunk told Lance. Lance smiled.
"I REALLY hope so!" He giggled.
"Who do you think will get Juliet?" Hunk asked. Lance shrugged.
"Maybe Pidge? Surely she wouldn't give it to a guy," Lance poised. Hunk laughed.
"Are you saying that because you honestly don't think she would, or because you're just really hoping you won't have to kiss a guy?" Hunk asked. Lance laughed, blushing.
"Both I guess," he explained. Hunk nodded.
"Well I don't think it'll be Pidge. You know how she hates public speaking. Remember how hard it was to get her to join student council? We had to promise so many times that the treasurer didn't give speeches! Plus, she never said anything about auditioning," Hunk contended. Lance nodded.
"True, I just can't think of anyone else it would be," Lance explained.
"Maybe Ms. Fran will bring in someone from outside of school," he guessed.
"Is she allowed to do that?" Questioned Lance.
"You better hope so, or else you'll be cuddling up to some guy, questioning your life choices," Hunk chuckled. Lance laughed along too.
"Oh stop it Hunk!" He giggled. They were almost to the theatre room, both of them grew more nervous.
"So, did you see Keith today?" Hunk asked, making conversation. Lance made a face.
"No, thank goodness. Any day I don't see that mullet's face is a blessing," Lance smiled. Hunk chuckled.
"You really hate him don't you?" Hunk asked. Lance nodded.
"Oh yes, and you know me...I don't hate anyone," Lance told him. Hunk smiled.
"Okay well, I passed him in the hallway, and he was actually wearing his school uniform!" Hunk hollered. Lance quirked an eyebrow.
"Really? That's a first," he commented.
"Yeah," Hunk agreed.
"I bet he's on thin ice. He's probably doing everything he can right now not to get expelled," Lance smirked.
"Well that's good, that means a lot less fights in the cafeteria, and a lot less trouble in general," Hunk smiled.
"Yeah!" Agreed Lance. The two boys tuned the corner, seeing a crowd around the theatre door. The two looked at each other nervously, then began to push through the boys.
"Excuse me," they both called out. Finally they made it to the door. Lance's eyes lit up.
"HUNK! I'M ROMEO AND YOU'RE THE NURSE!" Lance shrieked, unable to contain his joy.
"YAAAAAAY!" Hunk cheered. The both gave each other a hug, then began to look over the cast list some more.
"Hey! Look at that, Pidge got stage manager!" Hunk cheered.
"Good for her! That's great! I love Pidge!" Lance cheered. Then his eyes trailed to Juliet. He looked at the name next to it puzzled.
"Kara Kogane? Who's that?" He asked. Hunk shrugged, confused as well.
"I guess we were right. Ms. Fran must have pulled someone from outside the school to play Juliet," he explained. Lance nodded.
"Yeah. Where have I heard that name before though? Kogane..." Lance muttered. Hunk and Lancd contemplated, then tuned to each other wide eyed.
"KOGANE!" Lance yelled.
"Does Keith have a sister?!" Asked Hunk. Lance groaned.
"I have no clue! But I swear if this girl is anything like him then i'm dropping out!" Lance insisted. Hunk slapped his arm.
"Oh come on Lance, it's not that bad," Hunk promised.
"Hunk i'm not actually gonna drop out. Im just a little alarmed," Lance explained. Hunk shrugged.
"At least it's not a guy," he suggested. Lance nodded.
"That's true," Lance agreed. Then Lance and Hunk pushed their way back through the crowd, wondering what all the play had in store for them.
