Moving On

As Keith parked his motorcycle the next morning he felt a rock of anxiety in the pit of his stomach. He wasn't ready to see Lance as Keith again. He wasn't ready to see how differently Lance looked at him. Lance would probably soon forget about Keith. Lance would probably...

"Keith!" He heard someone shout from behind him. His heart picked up speed. He knew that voice. He turned around quickly seeing a tall brown haired boy running towards him with a dumb grin.

"I missed you so much!" Lance squealed as he leaped into Keith's arms. Keith couldn't help but grin back, feeling a wave of electricity course through him.

"I missed you too Lance!" Keith giggled, squeezing the other boy hard. Lance finally let go laughing.

"Isn't it funny how far we've come? I mean think back to the beginning of the year! If I had seen you getting off your motorcycle then I would have flipped you off secretly or something," Lance confessed. Keith nodded along, laughing as well.

"See...I would have made sure you would have seen it," Keith snickered. Lance rolled his eyes. Then they both began to walk towards the school.

"Okay so how was it? Did you ever find Kara again?" Keith asked. Lance nodded happily.

"Oh I found her alright," Lance hinted, blushing. Keith felt his stomach go tight again.

"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked defensively.

"Well...you know how the school dance is this Friday?" Lance asked. Keith's eyebrows show up. He hadn't realized the dance was so soon.

"Well...Kara's gonna be my date to it. I'm not really sure what her and I are right now, but I think she likes me back," Lance cooed. Keith tried to give Lance his best fake smile.

"That's great Lance...I'm happy for you, I guess that practice payed off," Keith hinted, wanting Lance to think about kissing Keith again instead of Kara. Lance made a worried face.

"Yeah...about that...I know I had said that I really liked how we did that and wanted to keep on...well I enjoyed it and all but now that me and Kara are happening more...I don't think we should...do that any more," Lance stuttered out. Keith's breath caught and his heart sank.

"What?" Is all he managed. Lance gave him another awkward glance.

"I just mean...I would be kinda weird to do...now that things have been happening between me and Kara..." Lance mumbled, trailing off.

Keith couldn't believe what he was hearing. Just the other night Lance had been all over him, wanting more just like Keith had. Had Kara really changed that much in Lance's mind...in Lance's heart in just one day? Maybe Lance hadn't forgotten about Keith...but he certainly had forgotten Keith's lips...even if they were the same ones as Kara's.

"Lance...I just don't understand. I don't see why we have to quit when you and Kara aren't even a thing yet. Didn't we both say it made us feel better?" Keith asked hurt. Lance nodded sheepishly.

"Keith...I think it was more of a spur of the moment kind of thing. Let's face it...it would be weird if we kept doing that...I think it's best if we just forget it and move on," Lance explained. Keith felt his skin growing hot. From embarrassment and frustration. They had just made it to the front of the school...but Keith grabbed Lance's arm and yanked him to a school alleyway. Keith pinned Lance against the brick wall, his hands digging into the other boy's shoulders.

"Forget it? Move on? Stop trying to act like this is something we both want! Clearly you have already moved on and are just trying to get me to join you as well! But I'm sorry! For me that night was special...I've never connected with someone that much before so I'm sorry if I can't just forget it and move on! Lance I thought I had made it clear to you...I don't have a lot of people in my life...and you're one of the most important ones, and I don't want to ever forget any of the times we've shared and I certainly don't want to move on from you!" Keith gasped. He was starting to feel his eyes tear up. Maybe he was acting like a big baby, but he didn't care. Lance looked at him with sorrowful eyes.

"Keith please...I'm not trying to move on from you...I would never do that. You mean so much to me too! To put it simply...all I'm talking about is the making out part...I still want to tell you all my deep dark secrets, I still want to eat bento boxes with you, I still want to play video games, I still want you to be one of the main people in my life. I just would think it would be wise to stop everything else," Lance admitted. Keith let go of his shoulders defeated.

"Lance I'm sorry if I'm being moody...I just felt like that was a big part of our relationship too," Keith tried to explain...trying to make that sound straight. Lance nodded in understanding.

"Look...I don't know. This whole situation is just complicated," Lance laughed, exasperated. Keith nodded, finally giving in.

"Okay then...you're right. Maybe it is time to stop...it was definitely a weird thing we had going. I just want one last request before we move on," Keith said. Lance nodded.

"Of course!" He smiled. Keith felt a nervous wave of energy in his stomach as he looked into the other boys blue eyes.

"Could we just have o-one last..." Keith started before trailing off and turning red.

"Kiss? Sure! Maybe not here, but yeah...we can sneak into a janitors closest at some point today and end it all off with one last kiss!" Lance cheered. Keith laughed. How had Lance not figured out Keith was gay and in love with him. It was the most obvious thing in the world yet the lanky Cuban boy was oblivious. Here Keith was asking for yet another kiss from him and Lance was oh so eager to give it. Yet Keith felt the lump in his stomach growing bigger at the the thought this would be the last one. Why did Lance have to do this? Before Keith had been annoyed with Kara, but now he outright hated her. Luckily the play was Saturday...right after the dance. As long as Keith could hold out until then...then he could get rid of her once and for all.

"Okay deal," Keith chuckled, "Now tell me more about New York."
