"Kara!" Lance yelled when Keith entered the hotel room. Lance threw his arms around Keith and squeezed him tightly. Keith awkwardly patted Lance's back, thinking back to their fight.
"Where were you?!" Lance asked, pulling away to examine Kara's face.
"Oh I just went on a walk. It's not a big deal," Keith sighed. Lance frowned.
"It is a big deal! You should have at least left me a note! I was so worried and I felt so helpless! I mean Kara, we're in New York of all places!" Lance insisted. Keith shrugged.
"Texas is big too," he said.
"Well not where we live," Lance argued.
"Okay well where we live isn't small either," Keith went on.
"Well it just...isn't New York!" Lance sighed, frustrated. Keith glared. He was mad at Lance, and he was mad at himself. He didn't get why they couldn't just stop arguing.
"Well...what do you want to do today?" Keith asked. That perked Lance up.
"Do you think we could go to an art museum? Like the Met?!" Lance asked excitedly. That perked Keith up too.
"Yeah that sounds great!" Keith agreed. Keith loved to paint and draw. He had loved art ever since he was little. It had been one of the only things keeping him going back when he went through the pits of his depression.
So Lance and Keith got ready for the day, and before they knew it they were headed out again. They decided to walk through Central Park to get there.
"So...about last night," Keith started as they walked. Lance turned to him quickly, and Keith immediately picked up on Lance's nervous energy.
"Oh yeah! Your...a really great kisser," Lance flirted, blushing. Keith rolled his eyes.
"Eh, you were doing most of the work," Keith shrugged. Lance laughed in return, and wrapped his arm around Keith's elbow. Keith sighed. How was he going to turn down the boy he loved? Lance was making it so hard. Keith unraveled his arm from Lance's grasp slowly, and looked up at the blue eyed boy.
"Lance listen....about what I said last night...I was just tired. I shouldn't have said all that, and I never agreed to be your girlfriend or anything," Keith said carefully. Lance frowned, confused.
"Oh...oh yeah I mean...I didn't think that. I mean just because we like each other doesn't mean we have to be boyfriend girlfriend. We can take things as slowly as you want, I promise. I'm sorry if that kiss in bed was too much, I wasn't really thinking either. I just figured we're kind of in the talking/dating stage taking things slowly or something. I mean...that's cool right?" Lance asked hesitantly, doubting himself again. Keith glanced down at Lance's thighs, remembering the scars that were underneath his pants. Lance didn't think Kara and him were together, but he thought they liked each other. Keith guessed things could be worse. Maybe if he agreed to take things slowly, Kara could fade away slowly without Lance getting hurt. And if Kara liked Lance, the girl he was in love with...maybe that could help Lance find his self worth. Maybe some of those scars could start to fade. But if Keith turned Lance down, he was scared Lance would just fall back into a pit of despair. Keith sighed as he decided what to say.
"Sure, that sounds good. As long as things go really really really slow," Keith insisted. Lance's face lit up again, and he nodded quickly.
"Of course!" Lance grinned.
"Oh one more thing, don't follow me around in the Met. Find your own art pieces to see!" Keith insisted. Lance laughed.
"Okay, deal," Lance laughed. Keith rolled his eyes. Lance was terrible at keeping deals.
Soon enough they were in the Met, and Keith explored room after room. Soon enough after that they got some lunch and explored more of the city. And then finally, it was time to go back home. Soon enough, Lance and Keith were all packed up, and getting ready to board their plane back home.
This time when they took their seats, Keith let Lance take the window.
"Kara?" Lance asked as they waited for the plane to take off.
"What?" Asked Keith.
"I had a really fun day with you," Lance sighed, lovestruck.
"Yeah same here," Keith smiled, putting in his AirPods. He closed his eyes, trying to fall asleep.
"Kara?" Lance asked again. Keith took an AirPod out and gave Lance the side eye.
"What?" He asked again. Lance blushed.
"Oh nothing! You just looked really pretty today," Lance grinned. Keith gave Lance an awkward side tilted smile.
"Thanks," he managed, putting the AirPod back in. He closed his eyes again.
"Kara?" Lance asked for the third time. This time Keith had had it. He yanked the AirPod out of his ear and glared at Lance.
"What the fuck do you want?! I'm trying to sleep!" Keith demanded. Lance startled.
"Sorry! Sorry! The truth is...what I actually want to ask you is well...are things going to change when we get back? Because I don't want them to be like how they were before this trip," Lance admitted. Keith sighed.
"Look...have we had our first kiss?" Keith asked.
"Yes," Lance replied, wondering where's this was going.
"Okay have we seen professional actors perform Romeo and Juliet?" Asked Keith.
"Yes," Lance replied.
"Have we established that we don't hate each other?"
"Yes."
"Did I agree to take things slowly and go to the school dance with you?"
"Yes."
"Okay then. That means things have changed on stage and off. We're all good, now shut up and look out the window. Don't make me regret giving you the window seat!" Keith insisted. Lance smiled, truly happy.
"Deal," Lance agreed.
"'And stop saying deal! I ran into you way to many times on the Met! So when you say 'deal' it means nothing to me!"' Keith huffed.
"Okay! Okay!" Lance laughed, turning his head to the window. Keith put his AirPod in again. This time when he closed his eyes, he finally went to sleep.
