Fiete
For most of the way, they had encountered no centaurs. Only once did they encounter a tribe. But they ignored them for the most part. However, they learned from a friendly centaur that some tribes were currently living deeper in the steppe, as they had found water there and could now build wells. They were no longer dependent on settling on the river. The advantage was great. Hostile tribes did not get in each other's way so quickly. Fiete had noticed very well that at the great meeting of the centaurs, there had always been small disputes among a few tribes. But he didn't care.
The days flew by.
Princess Cleo was afraid. She rarely let Fiete and Josefine out of her sight and tried to keep as much distance as possible from them. That didn't bother Fiete. Cleo was indifferent to him.
If she weren't Julia's sister, she might have become a snack. She looked delicious. Just like her wife. Josefine also toyed with the idea. That was clear to see.
Instead of eating them or tearing them to pieces, however, his niece was content to frighten them even more. And no matter how many times he reprimanded her, she didn't stop. But he wasn't surprised either. There was more black dragon in Josefine than white dragon. The only thing that stopped her from leaving nothing but destruction behind was Julia.
And Josefine was hungry. Very hungry. The provisions were not enough to supply two large dragons. They needed fresh, bloody meat. Yes. Fiete was also hungry. And so far, they had only caught a few mice and lizards. That was just a tiny snack. And they didn't want to leave the group alone for long. Nevertheless, the two soon had to hunt something bigger.
The group just took a break. Cleo and Charlotte practiced using magic with Julia. They all sat by the river, which seeped into the sand here. Marko filled up their water bottles. They had reached the beginning of the desert. Nevertheless, the grass of the steppe still defied the desert sand. Now they could no longer follow the river, as it would only show itself again in its full splendor shortly before the mountains. In the desert, there were only a few places where the river came to the surface. Tiny oases.
"We should look for the mountains from here. The best way to do this is from the air", said Fiete. He had taken human form again. Finn sat in the sand, leaning straight against Julia, who was combing her fingers through his fine hair while she tried some spell, but she didn't succeed.
Josefine nodded eagerly. She buried her bare feet in the first sand of the desert. Here the sand was still cool and crossed by tall blades of grass, but deep in the desert the sand could be scorching hot. Peter and Leopold were busy throwing sand at each other, but now the two looked at Fiete.
"From the air?" Leopold grinned and shook the sand out of his hair. "How high do you have to fly for that?"
"Very high." Fiete scratched his head. "You won't be able to see the mountains. Your eyes are not good enough."
"Hm..." The elf sat down next to Julie and kissed her cheek.
"Julia?" Josefine jumped up and jumped excitedly like a little child. "You're flying with me, yes?"
"Gladly", Julia replied. Peter looked questioningly at Fiete while Cleo and Charlotte turned pale.
"Peter? Will you fly with me?", asked Fiete flattered. Peter nodded immediately.
"Leo? Do you want to fly with me and Julia? We dragons are too fast for you", Josefine suggested to the elf. Leopold liked the idea and so it was decided.
Peter
Peter was still afraid of flying, but at the same time, he wanted to accompany Fiete into the air. Riding a dragon was something special. Peter no longer dreamed of being a magician. He also no longer envied Julia for her magic. He was very proud of his little sister.
