Emmie

Emmie liked her fencing instructor. And Peyo was no different.

Tamino was good at explaining. He made weird jokes, even about himself, and he was extremely patient. Especially with Peyo, who struggled a bit with the feeling of a bow and arrow in his hands. Emmie, on the other hand, never wanted to put her bow down again. Now, on the weekend, her teacher was at home. With his family. She regretted that a little bit. Emmie stood in the garden and practiced diligently hitting the target. It was much harder than she expected.

In the last few days, it had become cold. The approaching winter sent its first greetings. In the morning, the lawn in the garden of the estate was covered with thin hoarfrost. But now there was no sign of it.

Emmie didn't feel cold as she cocked her bow and aimed at the simple target. She missed the center by only a few centimeters. Satisfied, she stretched her bow again. Tamino said she had talent. Just like Peyo, who, despite his caution, had scored perfectly on his first attempt. Emmie was a little jealous of that. In the end, it turned out to be a pure stroke of luck, and yet. She was proud of Peyo. He hit the target more often than she did. Mostly only on the sidelines, but still.

However, Fritz and Paula did not let her fight. Something ridiculous, Emmie thought. She fought since early childhood. She already learned to use her teeth as a toddler. She was not a vulnerable teenager. She was an alpha wolf. Not a little girl!

"Emmie? Good shot!" Peyo came to her with two steaming cups that smelled of chocolate. He looked at the four arrows stuck in the target. Four out of a total of ten arrows fired. She soon had to collect them. She ran out of arrows.

"Thank you!" She took one of the cups and warmed her hands with it. Hot chocolate. That was exactly what she needed.

Unlike Emmie, Peyo was warmly dressed. His shimmering red wings shivered in the cold. "You need a break. You've been standing here for two hours. Paula told me to bring you inside."

"She did?" Emmie grinned. "I'm not done practicing yet..." Sighing, she sat down on the damp grass. Peyo grimaced at first, but then he put his thick scarf on the lawn and sat down next to her.

"The ground is cold... and wet", he grumbled, his face grimacing. "Emmie? You're not done yet? After two hours?" Peyo shook his head. "I'd rather learn an instrument. Flute, perhaps? Transverse flute? Or playing the harp?"

"The Harp?" Emmie frowned. "But the harp doesn't sound exciting..."

Peyo rolled his eyes. "I think the harp is a noble instrument. I would like to be able to play it. My parents never had the money to buy me one. Or for lessons. Not for a flute either..."

"Did you tell that Fritz and Paula? That you want an instrument?"

"Yes." Peyo nodded. "Earlier. Paula said I could try both."

"Both?" Emmie grinned broadly. "You're going to get a flute and a harp?"

"Yes? A flute. And a harp."

"Lucky guy. But I think you shouldn't give up bow and arrow. It would be a shame." She lay down in the tall grass. The damp blades of grass tickled her soft wolf ears.

"A shame? Why that?"

"Well, then I wouldn't be able to lovingly stare at you while you practice archery!" She winked at him.

„What?" Peyo blushed.

"I don't think a harp is sexy!", she announced. She sat up again. However, only to push Peyo into the grass and kiss him.

"Hey! It's wet!", he protested.

"But I can get used to a harp!" She kissed his cheeks and the tip of his nose to make him laugh.
