Marie
Marie was excited.
Today, the students of the elite course would accompany real, fully trained soldiers in their work. Nothing dangerous, of course. Probably. The 'lesson' was about monitoring the major roads, where the students should gain their first experience. They would watch the soldiers check papers and arrest those who violated the law. Maybe they would be allowed to lend them a hand.
Marie was assigned alone to a small squad. The soldiers welcomed her warmly and explained to her what to look out for. They also tested her knowledge of Travel Law. Who was allowed to use the roads and who wasn't?
Marie answered every question correctly. Only the nobility and the royal family were allowed to move freely. Otherwise, it was only allowed to leave the place of residence to a limited extent. Merchants and postmen were among those who were also allowed to move on the streets. Likewise, students, as far as school activities were concerned. And, of course, rich citizens who had been invited to an event, or those who had applied for a special permit. For example, to attend the birthday of a family member. If they lived further away and a trip was necessary. This permit had to be applied for at the town halls of the villages. In person, or by post.
Marie found these laws too strict. The travel ban separated many families. But she kept her opinion to herself.
Marlon
His aunt's property had burned down.
Marlon got terrible news when he was having dinner. A messenger came with the news of the deaths of his aunt and his little niece Coralie. The nanny and a few other servants had also fallen victim to the flames. A tragedy. Currently, an accident was assumed.
This news would shake the kingdom all the more.
Marlon sighed. He had nothing to do with the death of his aunt. Was it Agathe? Surely Coletta and Coralie were a thorn in her side. Just like his sister Annemarie to him. But no one knew where she and her family were. She and Torsten had gone into hiding.
Did Annemarie suspect something?
No. Impossible.
Pure chaos had now broken out among the council members. They had just finished planning for the funeral of the king and queen, and the bodies of the deceased were on ice until their funeral when the next news of death came.
So, instead of lying in his bed, he sat with the council at the big table. "And if we merge the celebrations?", suggested Marlon, doing his best to appear unhappy and affected. "My mother would certainly have agreed to share the celebration with her sister."
"A joint celebration?" The oldest council member, Helmut von Helm, nodded. "That would save us a lot of stress. Tomorrow we will first announce the death of Princess Coletta von Bluthof and her daughter. Her body and that of her daughter must be brought here so that we can bury them here."
But the objections came immediately. The other advisors did not want to delay the funeral of the king and queen any longer. No. The invitations had long since been sent. Eventually, it was agreed to quietly bury Coletta and her daughter a week later.
"As for my parents' funeral", Marlon spoke up again. "I propose to invite Queen Agathe von Sonnenhof. My parents had just allied with her, which we certainly want to maintain. That's why I think it's important to invite her as a guest and make sure our contracts continue to apply."
This proposal met with much support.
"We have to find Princess Annemarie and Prince Torsten!", said another council member. "Their presence is required!"
Marlon nodded. I still have to take care of Annemarie... And of Torsten. Agathe would like that... Oh... And the plagues. The presence of his sister was definitely required. The throne belonged to him and not to her and her ridiculous man. And their children! Half-vampires. No. They were not heirs to the throne. They would weaken the country. And besides, half-breeds were infertile. They would not produce descendants for the throne.
Unlike Marlon. Not with the Witch Queen, of course. No. He didn't want half-breeds and she didn't want any more children. But he would find some vampire lady. He remembered Oona. The thought of her, however, horrified him.
Since the two obviously did not get along, his parents had refrained from wanting to pair him with her. No. Marlon would find a vampire who would give him offspring. But first, he had to secure the throne!
Emmie
She was lying in her bed with her blanket pulled over her head. She ignored the chirping birds and the bright sunlight. Emmie just wanted to be lazy.
The rebels welcomed her and Peyo and asked her if she could fight. Emmie was a wolf. Of course, she could fight. But Paula had intervened. Emmie would be too young to fight.
Too young!
She was an Alpha! She wanted to take over her pack one day! Surely Emmie wasn't too young to fight. And Peyo? Peyo had also been asked by the rebels, but he had only shaken his head with wide eyes. When it came to Emmie, Peyo didn't have to fight.
Firstly, he was much too thin and secondly, he did not like violence.
No. Emmie would wrap him in soft blankets and growl at anyone who wasn't nice to him. She didn't see him as a weakling, no. But he wasn't a werewolf. Emmie, on the other hand, was an Alpha. Of course, she was stronger than him.
Would Peyo like to see her wolf form? They hadn't talked about it yet. Would he also like Emmie as a wolf?
She wanted to find out.
But not now. Today, she would be lazy...
