Leopold
Leopold was worried about Julia. She seemed unsure. On the one hand, she wanted to move on quickly, and on the other hand, she did not want to deny Josefine the exploration of her mother's homeland.
Was the time pressing?
And there was another problem. The weather remained unstable. Sometimes, heavy gusts of wind swept through the mountains. A final greeting from the storm. They could not move on.
Leopold, Julia, Peter, and Josefine followed Fiete deep into one of the many caves. It was just a bit windy, and they took their chance. As promised, he wanted to show them the eggshells, and the murals. Josefine jumped a bit while walking and hugged Julia again, and again.
Fiete lit torches on the walls to illuminate the corridors. Otherwise, only the two dragons would have been able to see something. These torches had been in the corridors for a long time. Fiete said that these were still left over from the time when dragons and wizards were bound by a strong bond.
Julia smiled amused as Josefine pressed a kiss to her cheek, even though the worries were written on her face. She looked so beautiful. Leopold wanted to kiss her immediately and retreat with her somewhere so that he had her all to himself for a change.
Finally, they came to a spacious cave, which was also equipped with torches. The moment Fiete set them on fire they saw sparkling eggshells and magnificent murals.
"Wow!", murmured Peter, looking around impressed. "This is breathtaking."
Fiete smiled proudly and showed him, and Josefine the eggshells of Saira. Afterward, he proudly presented his own. Josefine wiped a few tears from her face. Julia reached for Leopold's hand.
"Have you ever seen anything comparable?", she asked quietly. "All my mother's treasures can't compete with this."
"Do you think so?" Leopold doubted this. Yes, it was beautiful and somehow touching, but in the end, these were just old paintings and eggshells.
Fiete, however, flattered Julia's statement, which of course he had heard. Leopold rolled his eyes.
"This is our greatest treasure." Fiete stroked his sister's eggshells. "Many years ago, harpies stole the shells. A fight ensued. Saira lost her girlfriend Vicky, and Blossom her partner. I can hardly remember what happened. I was still very young. But since then, our relationship with the harpies has been very shaky."
"A fight?" Josefine frowned. "Mom never told me about that. And what do the pictures tell?" She pointed to the paintings of red paint and earth tones. Julia pulled Leopold with her, and they all looked at the pictures together.
These showed dragons, humans, and magicians. A fight was depicted.
Fiete stroked the image of a fire-breathing dragon. "Once upon a time, witches and wizards lived here. At the foot of the mountains. Among them, there were also mortals. The wizards, not the witches, were the rulers of their city. It is said that the city was magnificent and prosperous. The white dragons had an alliance with them. Among the witches and wizards, some made a magical covenant with a dragon and watched over our land. At that time, there were many wars. Until one day, one wizard turned against the others. Deep under the sands of the desert, remnants of the city may still be buried."
Josefine smiled impressed. "And the black dragons?"
"The city and our mountains had to be defended against them." Fiete pointed to a few dragons attacking the image of a mountain. "There aren't many black dragons today, but back then they were in the majority. Aggressive, and dangerous."
