Chapter 42 - Avdol's Recovery

"So he really did leave us after all..." Joesph muttered, glancing over at the empty seat at the table. "I have a bad feeling. Dio's minions must be on his trail already." Kakyoin sighed, rubbing his temple. "Me too. I will go search for him." Avdol said, standing up and slamming his hands down on the table. 

"Wait, Avdol. He already made up his mind, you heard him. He has his reasons." (Y/N) said, Avdol giving her a glare. "He's putting himself in danger by letting his emotions take over. Someone has to do something before he gets killed." Avdol said in a surprisingly calm tone. He stood up and walked towards the door, "If you don't want to assist me in this search, you can stay. This is my choice." Avdol said, leaving the crusaders at the table. 

Everyone at the table shared a look, knowing that they had to do something. "I'll go search the market." Kakyoin said, being the first to take charge. "Me too, you two can take the outskirts." Joesph said, pointing to Jotaro and (Y/N) who both responded with a nod. 

Everyone rushed off in separate directions. (Y/N) went around asking if people had seen a French man with weird hair because it was his most defining trait but no one seemed to have seen him. "(Y/N)! (Y/N)!" She heard Joesph's familiar gruff voice call from a couple blocks away, she immediately ran over and her heart dropped seeing Avdol laying out in the middle of the road, a bullet hole in his head. 

Joesph and Jotaro stared down at him, a serious but sad expression painted on their faces. (Y/N) approached them slowly, she felt her lip shake, looking down at the man who was so determined just a little while ago. Jotaro clutched Avdol's blood stained bandana tightly in his hand, he grinned his teeth together to keep tears from falling. Joesph kneeled down and inspected the wound, his eyes suddenly lit up, "Avdol! Avdol!" Joesph exclaimed, shaking Avdol a bit. 

(Y/N) and Jotaro's eyes widened when they noticed a small sign of movement from Avdol. Both of them immediately got down to his level and looked over him, trying to see another twitch. Avdol's eyes fluttered open wearily, "Is Polnareff s-safe?" he asked, a slight falter in his voice. Joesph nodded, "Yeah, Kakyoin and him are going to fight the man with two right hands." He said, not being able to hide his smile. "So he still is stubborn, even now." Avdol chuckled, coughing a bit, "At least he's alright." He smiled. "Alright, let's you somewhere safe. Jotaro, let's take him to the hotel." Joesph said. 

They steadied Avdol on their shoulders and helped them walk back. People stared at them as they made their way to their room, Avdol leaving a trail of blood as they went. They laid Avdol on the bed, (Y/N) grabbed an emergency kit from the bathroom and threw it to Joesph, who did his best to properly wrap up the wound. 

"What do we do now? We have to let Avdol recover." (Y/N) asked, sitting down in a cushy chair as Joesph paced around the room. "I know... I'm still trying to figure that out." Joesph sighed, stroking his beard. Jotaro cracked open a can of beer and sat down in another seat, contemplating their choices. 

"I have a place." Avdol said, wincing in pain a bit. Jotaro, Joesph, and (Y/N) all turned to him, waiting for an explanation. "Joesph, that island... I can go there." He said. Joesph's eyes lit up, "Yes! That will allow you to rest and we'll pick you up once we're on route that way." He exclaimed. (Y/N) and Jotaro stared at the two in confusion, "What island?" Jotaro asked, taking a sip of beer. 

"Avdol has a small island just a little while away, the Speedwagon Foundation can take him there and we'll pick him up before we get to Egypt." Joesph explained, rushing over to the phone and dialing a bunch of numbers, "There's no time to waste, he must get there as soon as possible before Dio catches wind of our plan." He said before the Foundation picked up. 

Joesph explained the situation to the Speedwagon employees and hung up the phone. "They'll be here in 30 minutes." He said confidently. "That quick? Damn." (Y/N) said, impressed. "Yup, they have bases all over the world. We have their help wherever we go." Joesph nodded, "Now quickly, we must get Avdol to the port." He said.  

Jotaro and Joesph quickly picked up Avdol just as they had before and (Y/N) followed them down to the port. The Speedwagon was there even faster than expected and loaded Avdol onto a stretcher on the boat. "He'll be in great care, Mr.Joestar." And employee said. 

(Y/N) and Jotaro watched the medical team scramble around the boat, doing all sorts of tasks in preparation to start their route to the island. They plopped down on a bench, Joesph approaching them once he was done talking to the employees. 

"Don't tell Polnareff about any of this." Joesph said. "What? Why?" (Y/N) asked. "Just like what happened earlier. He can't keep his big ass mouth shut." Jotaro sighed. "Shit, you're right." (Y/N) exhaled, "So what? We're just gonna tell him that Avdol's dead?" She asked somewhat sarcastically. "Exactly." Joesph said, happy that they caught on quick. 

Both the teen's eyes widened, Jotaro hiding his with his hat. "Really? Poor guy has been through enough, Jiji." (Y/N) said. "I know... but it's all we can do for now. He'll see Avdol again soon, don't worry." Joesph said nonchalantly. "Yare Yare Daze... Let's go find Kakyoin and Polnareff and make sure they're not dead." Jotaro sighed. Joesph and (Y/N) nodded and the three headed for the center of the market, all of them still concerned for Avdol and hoping that he's in good hands with the Speedwagon Foundation.
